I’ve been wondering a while about the reason they do ceramic plate to IR lamps.
I agree that even common light bulbs are (and make the surrounding lamp) hot, so what’s the difference?
The only answer I came to is that IR lamps are often much more powerful than usual light bulbs: for example, commercial IR lamps from Philips if I remember well are ~300W, while a powerful light lamp is ‘only’ 150W.
Maybe for a light 300W lamp they’d do ceramic coating too.
