Measuring girth, toilet paper roll...

Ok, some time ago (can’t find the thread) someone posted how to make rings from an empty toilet paper roll. Cut apx .5’ to .75” wide and taped into given internal diameters, IE 5.00”, 5.25”, 5.50” excetera.

Well, everyone has always stated the a TP tube was 5.50” inches.

The outside measures 5.375 and the inside diameter (the important measurement) measures JUST over 5.125”. Hope this doesn’t bum anyone out but I find it important.

BTW, the rings idea is still a good one. I find the easiest way to measure Id is to take a sheet of paper and mark the measurements down the middle. Roll up the sheet and unroll it inside a ring to measure. Easy. Accurate.

BTW, I started at just under 4.5” girth and used to look like the ringer in a bell in a TP tube. I recently started doing ULI’s and now after exercise can all but fill one. Not huge by any stretch but for me… Great!

I measured, and have always measured them at 5.5 and the actual roll is so thin that I doubt you’re going to get the .25 difference between the inside and outer diameter that you talk about….if that was the case that would mean the roll is almost a quarter of an inch thick!

My particular toilet paper roll when cut and rolled out measured at 5.25 inches. Since there is no international standard for roll circumference, everyone should measure their own before using it as some kind of girth standard for monitoring their size accurately.

There are different sizes, I know the one’s at work are bigger than the home ones. I found this thin plastic tube that’s 6.5 inches around and always said the perfect size would be not to be able to fit in the tube, well I now can’t fit in the tube when I’m fluffed “not fully erect”. When I’m fully erect I fit in because my girth goes down to 6. So I’m hoping the this means my erect girth gains are coming.

Well, I think it is very fair to say that different manufacturers could make different sized rolls. Fair enough. That said the suggestion above is very good, measure your roll if you intend to use it as a rule. I use Charmin (if it matters). This is a very popular USA brand. The important measurement is Inside Diameter (I.D.) The ONLY way to measure this accurately is to use a piece of paper rolled up and marked.

Why couldn’t you just determine the width of the cardboard on the toilet paper tube (use a micrometer perhaps?), measure the outside, and using some simple math extrapolate the inside diameter?

I cut it open and measured. Mine is Scott Tissue and it is 5.25”

Obviously that’s not as cool. :) Things aren’t fun unless you are using extraenous tools and equipment.

I measured Scott’s TP roll at exactly 5.25 and brawny paper towel roll to be the same. If your reading 5.5 on a TP roll then your probably using Charmin. I’ve noticed that those are bigger. I didn’t measure it but I would guess that those are 5.5+. Hopefully this will help.

I am 4.5 girth and my unit barely fits in a toilet paper roll, does if I use a little force. Maybe I’ve measured girth wrong?

There are different sizes of empty rolls. I know from measuring ones my wife has purchased.

I always thought it was 5.25” because I saw that in some other threads, and I was thinking the other day, “I must have REALLY small hands” and how 5.25” seemed huge and how far I had to go on girth. Today I finally measured the toilet paper rolls I had been comparing to. The ones I use around here are 6.125” external!
