What seems to me to be in order is a reference guide. What is needed is a commonly accepted standard.
If there is a preferred method to perform exercises or, most importantly, it would seem, measurements and results, then someone should provide examples. Visual aides are extremely useful to members for whom English is not their primary language.
Gandolf has the means, ability, equipment, and dedication to attempt this.

That’s the problem I see coming, an attempt to change what has been a standard as far as the PE Database goes. Two years after we start entering data we are contemplating changing the way measurements are taken??

Well I’ve never measured from the side and I put my info in there. Its a method of documenting gains so as long as you are stable in your method everything is fine.
When it comes to instructing people how to measure I think Gandolf has the right idea, go for a method thats hard to fuck up.
And dewey is perceptive as always.

I have nothing against Gandolf making a video, I don’t think that it should be represented as the “Official” way to measure though. That is why I suggested a video showing each way.

As I described, my way of measuring coincides EXACTLY with the one by size, but the point of my measuring video wasn’t to cause soem big debate, so I will not be posting it on this forum I just decided.

If your way of measuring and therefore your video is the same as the Database directions by Size, then there is no debate. Your choice whether to post it here or not though.

Seems like a tad of an overreaction to decide not to post here because a discussion has ensued.

There is a saying that fits in here, “You can please some of the people all of the time, but not all of the people some of the time.”
I find, Gandolf, your series of videos/pictures to be educational and ones which eliminate potential incorrect techniques from developing.
I believe that people are at least intelligent enough to remain with one style of measuring, whether it be top or side, and to make evaluations based on such measuring style, for their PE “career”.
If people measure by top, great, and if people measure by side, that’s fine, too!
And besides, do you think that people will really be concerned with how measurements are taken by another person, so much so that it actually influences them negatively? Like it now becomes a competition? If so, then these people had better re-evaluate their reasons.
Some people just have complexes that they feel need to be heard, I believe!

I suppose it’s all fine at the end of the day. But the taking and posting of measured results is the only way to track one’s progress, and comparison (NOT competition) is a good indicator of progress and efficacy of technique.
Therefore, a standard is necessary. As for an illustration of methods, I wholeheartedly support it. So many guys lack the writing skills necessary to describe how they measure; this makes for some frustrating reposts.
If a guy could say “I measured like example A or B” rather than “I think I’m holding it right but it slipped and I measured half the side of my dick and half the top of my crank”… well, do you see what I’m sayin’?

Sorry, man, but this is almost laughably naive. This issue is hotly debated.
Have you not read any of the past threads about measuring? Are you unaware of the contention surrounding DLD’s methods?
I don’t expect that the debate on the pros and cons of top, side, bottom, or inner measurement methods will be eliminated. However, examples of the preferred technique (there is a consensus, if not unanimity) would go far toward instilling pe with a modicum of professionalism and authority.
