I have been a member of this forum for several months now, and have seldom posted anything in an open forum…
When I first found this site I was really excited to read the posts, and gained a lot of information from them. I took a very long time to get the buzz-words sorted out, and I did a lot of searching and reading to make sense of it all. I was particularly confused by LOT and my ligs and tunica and which direction I should be stretching. During all this newbie confusion on my part, I remained silent. I had seen all too often what happened to those newbies who asked questions. I got the distinct impression that certain members were waiting to “ambush” those who phrased their question wrong, or got lost using the search function, or forgot to use the caps key. If a question was asked, it frequently was ignored, but the poor guy was attacked for asking what a Uli was, or what a particular abbreviation meant.
In my own case, I asked after some weeks (in open forum) about what later turned out to be a thrombosed vein. I was ignored. I posted again a few days later, and managed to get a couple of really lame responses. My solution? I did a search for vein, and then privately messaged the person who had made that post. I got an answer.
I suppose it is typical of the internet on various forums or newsgroups to have a large number of people who flame, belittle, or ambush people. I have seen it in a lot of places, and it’s very disturbing to me. I had always hoped this place would be different. It does not appear to be.
I doubt very much if I will ever post on this site in an open forum again. I think the treatment of jayroony was the last straw….especially from senior members of this forum.
I’ll continue reading posts, and message privately with those who seem to be non-combative.
