Music Before, During and After PE???

Well, I’ve been thinking…
Mabye music works in a similar way to the ‘positive attitude’ thing that we talk about in helping reach your gains, in that it either gives a positive or negative feeling, I’ll explain…

I segment a day in the life of a PE’er (using only 1 session a day at night) into 3 segments,

1.Before PE: During the day before my session at night and the last thing I did was rest (sleep) rather than PE’ing.

2.During PE: Whilst PE’ing

3.After PE: The time after PE’ing but BEFORE I go to bed.

Using this anology I believe that music may have an effect on each stage differently (or similarly) but it is just an idea so far.

My idea is that listening to heavy metal (generally negative and AGITATING) during stage 1 won’t have much of an effect negatively (and for the matter I think that music of any type will have little effect (be it positive or negative) on this stage at all).
__I have heard that listening to ‘enya’ helps in the healing of physically ill people and was thinking that this may help in the recovery time of PE excercices.(enya also being generally positive music)

With stages 2 and 3 I beleive that there may be some merit to what I am saying.

I will try listening to enya during stage 3 as I fall asleep (I actually like enya’s music) and stick with heavy metal during stage 1 BUT I am not sure as to stage 2 when I am actually doing the PE excercices what to do as heavy metal minght be too negative during PE’ing (thus limiting growth) and enya minght be the opposite, so I listen to Micheal Jackson and ‘techno’ music which gives me a medium between the two and helps me keep a consistent beat.

Last thing,
I wonder if during stage 2 while I am doing the excercices, if it is best to actually stress yourself with negative music or to relax with music like enya?
_I mean, if you stress yourself with negative heavy metal music then this minght make it easier to break the cells down in your penis whilst jelquing (not sure as to the issue of stretching, mabye relaxing music to get a more relaxed and longer pull)??? — Just a thought.

Loved going to Cuba! :)

I'm surprised that Americans can't go because their government says they can't!

Visuallizing some guy alone in a room, vaseline all over his hands, jelqing, beads of sweat rolling down his forhead, blinking hard through his sweat stung eyes, whilst listening to “Beat it” by Micheal Jackson…….LOL. I was thinking more along the lines of the Rocky theme song, or “Eye of The Tiger” by Survivor.

:D

That’s cool SW, But I was actually being serious about what I said.

I mean, listening to music can also help from being bored whilst doing the excercises. —- Anything like trance music that helps the time fly by as it “trances me out”.

More intense music could mean more intensity in your workout, but personally, I just like listening to music during my PE workout to pass the time a little quicker, while making it more enjoyable.

Have you listened to the cows?

“It’s been documented that classical music increased milk production by 30%.”

(Please don’t ask me where I got this from…OK, you beat it out of me: Joe Strummer, from The Clash)

It was in some interview. Incidentally, when the farmer decided to go Hi-Fi, by channeling in music via CD, the milk production returned to normal. It had to be vinyl…

True story.

I like listening to t.A.T.u, myself…something about young-Russians-of-dubious-sexual-orientation-clad-in-schoolgirl-uniforms-making-out-in-the-rain I find to be…stirring.

But to each his own.

Cheers!

(ps Very cool thoughts on music and it’s influence on PE. Quite original, too. You’re on the leading edge, here.)

Actually, this is the main reason I listen to music whilst PE’ing

Well hell! We’ve been looking for something to increase our loads - here it is. Where’s my Mozart?

Re: relaxation music

I like Enya too. As an alternative, I’m hooked on SomaFM: Commercial-free, Listener-supported Radio A week of that stuff and I’ve gotten so mellow I’m in danger of fermenting.

I have to listen to some type of hard rock/alternative music while I’m lifting weights. Keeps my energy and intensity up. But for PE, its a little more mental than just lifting weights, so I’d prefer if my mind was clear. I always do PE in the bathroom, and the bathroom fan is the only sound I hear.

Well, I have shifted my PE’ing from the bathroom to my bedroom and thus I have been able to drop the boring silence or that fu**ing fan :cuss:
But I find that I really don’t need to concentrate that much (only in little bits and peices) so if I can “zone myself out”, all the better to pass the time quicker while still getting in the same intensity PE workout as I did when I was back in the bathroom and not listening to anything but the sound of the fan.

BTW, I find that music without lyrics (or very simplistic ones) are better as you are not wasting concentration on what the lyrics are saying, —- A good example of to much lyrics would be Eminem’s music. (I do like Eminem’s music BTW)

Listening to Em takes full comcentration because he is very wordy. I’ve found that Snoop Dogg’s new album is good for PE (if you like hip-hop). The lyrics are always the same: “S-N-double-O-P and / coming straight from the L-B-C’n” - so it’s simple. Nice grooves to keep the jelqing on target. I always seem to jelq to the beat. :)

Also, I remember someone saying here that they use headphones in the bathroom while PEing. No one ever said anything about the CD player and headphones being in the bathroom, either.

I listen to hard music during my PE and softer stuff after. Yesterday I listened to alice in chains and nas during my workout, and after i listened to moe. and Jimi Hendrix to calm me down. I don’t do this all the time, but when I jump out of the shower I run over to my computer and pump the tunes out and get my workout started.

I love hip hop at every other time during the day…I’m going to try it during my session.

Whatever works for you. Any type of sound throws off my concentration completely. Out of the 800+ workouts I’ve done, I can think of only 5 where I didn’t do it in the bathroom with the fan on. I can’t even do a PE workout without the fan now. I am one with the bathroom fan. :inlove: (just kidding)
