Perhaps “swearing” by them is an overstatement.
Specifically, since I got serious about ADS I have been stretching (30 seconds to 1 minute) every time I urinate trying to keep my ligs fatigued, and they are. I have never felt the kind of all day soreness that I can bring about now. This is also due to improved stretching techniques (thanks to Thunder’s).
I have been doing this for around 4 months and have seen gains, though mostly in flaccid hang, and this is fine with me. I used to be a real grower, discomfort at the urinal and all, and now I am generally hanging much lower throughout the day.
I may be guessing that the all day pulling is contributing to gains, but I’m in a pretty good position to do so after much trial and error.
