prions and PE
I read somewhere that the statistical risk of getting either Creutzfeldt-Jakob or Alzheimer’s tends to go up after a fever. However I did a quick google search for this but could not find any links. I did find a link describing how e.g. aspirin (which lowers a fever) can prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s:

How are NSAIDs related to Alzheimer's disease?
Researchers are still investigating the exact cause(s) of Alzheimer's disease. One avenue of research has shown that inflammation in the brain may play a role in the development of Alzheimer's. Because NSAIDs help decrease inflammation in the body, researchers believe that NSAIDs may aid in preventing or delaying the onset of Alzheimer's disease by decreasing inflammation in the brain.
(here the emphasis of the narrative is on inflammation however)
CJ and Alzheimer’s are related to proteins misfolding, and the chance of that happening goes up when the temperature is raised, as well as when pressure is added.
If we accept that temperature and pressure can unfold proteins, should we be worrying about the possibilities of CJ, Alzheimer’s, or another prion-like variant, through the long term use of PE? It may be that the temperature differences and pressure differences are not large enough to be significant. I hope so. But I wonder if years of almost daily exposure could make those factors significant.
There are only a couple posts on these forums on prions and mad cow- none related to the enhanced risk through PE.
I’m beginning to worry a bit more seriously about this. Heat unfolds proteins, pressure unfolds proteins. We apply both heat and pressure in doing PE. What could be the long term effects of repeatedly applying heat and pressure to a part of your body? On the other hand, many people take hot showers daily..
I would have to do a little more web searching and thinking about this to say anything more meaningful. But I thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone bites.
