Private Message Pop ups

No, this is not a request about advertisements. If all the members would set their user options panel pop up choice to yes, it would effectively be an instant message system. The Private Message system has an “ignore user” option, that will stop the pop ups if one of us abuses the feature. It also has the ability to open message in another small window so that you don’t lose your current spot on the forum. You can also choose to view the message later. I have mine set to pop ups and it is not too bad to use, once you get used to it. Just a thought….

Well I guess I will have to not mind looking like an idiot here but how? Walk us through it cause I don’t see where or how to do this so I am thinking that maybe there are some others that are not too computor savvy like me.

Open your usercp (control panel) by clicking on the button at the top of the page. Then the third button on the top should be “Edit Options”. About five or six options down the list, is the pop up option. Set to yes.

When you receive a private message (if you have the pop up enabled) a window will pop up and ask if you want to view message now or later. If you click view message now, it will give you the option of opening the message in a new small window, or your present window.

Also, if you want to not receive messages from a certain member or members, you can add them to your ignore list in your private messages window.

Well I guess that is still a neat feature but not what I was thinking. I am talking about instand communication. You know, a seperate window that you type and read an ongoing conversation such as in aol. This requires us to fill out completely a brand new message etc and wait etc. Am I missing something or is there anything better? It may not be possible to get what I am saying.

I know what you mean. Like a chat really, but limited to online members. Don’t know if that is possible with this software at present. It may be a feature in the future updates.

With the private message now, the first person has to open a new post, then all replies after that are done by clicking the reply button, typing what you want to say and hitting send.

Guys here could trade AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, etc handles and use them while online, but then you have the fighting windows thing to put up with.

Well I guess I still have some fine tuning because it did not work that way when I tried to talk to someone ealier.

It may also be the way the other person has the options on their PM set up. Or they may have decided to view the message later.

Very convenient as the window opens as soon as you enter the forum. You don’t even have to think of looking if you have a message or not.

Well I did as you said and am yet to see any window. Even after I sent a message to someone and they sent it back. It just ended up in the private message folder.

I checked your settings for Private Messaging and there are set correctly. Do you have your browser set to not allow pop ups because of PE Forums? That is the only thing I can think of that may need reset.

No I receive pop ups. At one time I disabled that, but if I have that set then I can’t use spell check on the other board.
