There are plenty of general answers that could be given, but you need to listen to your own body.
Personally, if I can feel that my ligs are quite sore and need rest, I will only do very light JAI’s after going to the toilet. If they’re fine, then I do more.
Rest days are important, and the best thing about them is that you’re not going to injure yourself on them! :)
If you’re in PE for the long haul then you might as well take full rest days as the time spent allowing your body to repair itself is important while you’re quite new to PE it would seem. Once you are up to a good few months then (if your body says ‘yes’) you can perhaps go 7 on 0 off like DLD.
