Stretching by dancers, gymnasts, etc
The kings/queens of stretching out their bodies are the ballerinas, gymnasts, contortionists, yoga, etc. Of the world. I know, for example, that ballerinas spend a very large portion of their daily training simply warming up and stretching — you have to have much higher than normal flexibility to be a ballerina. They traditionally do just tons and tons of 10-30s holds on each stretch. Now, before you tell me that they are stretching muscles and tendons (which I already is true) whereas we are stretching ligaments and collagen, could you please tell me why and how exactly the two are so completely different?
I know they are different, however I would like to know why. What is the mechanism whereby muscles and tendons stretch out so much more readily than our dicks do? The thing is that I can’t imagine really any particular evolutionary basis for this kind of adaptation occurring so much more readily in muscles and tendons than in the material that makes up our dicks. I mean, we didn’t evolve to dance ballet; muscles being able to stretch out to greater lengths wouldn’t have had an obvious utility to me in the survival of our hunter gatherer forebears. But anyway, if it’s nonetheless the case that our muscles and tendons were “designed” to be able to be stretched out in the way that these stretching pros do, could someone explain the physiology or mechanism behind it?
