In your opinion, would stretching straight up close to the body and towards one’s chin place as much stress on the tunica (primarily septum) as pulling straight out?

I’ve been concentrating on manual stretching straight out in a seated position, but the angle requires the use of smaller muscle groups that tire quicker. When I stretch straight up (usually standing or lying down, seems to work best), I can use much larger muscles and have enough force to exceed my gripping ability and can hold the stretch much longer.

Pulling straight up would seem to be just as good, but I thought I’d bounce this off you in case I’m missing something…

Thanks for your time :)

RB,

>In your opinion, would stretching straight up close to the body and towards one’s chin place as much stress on the tunica (primarily septum) as pulling straight out?<

Yes, it will place as much, and even possibly more stress on most of the tunica as straight out. SO has the potential to involve the ligs, depending on the individual. The question is the individual tissues that are involved in each angle, and what the limiting factor is of each individual. For some, SO will be more beneficial, and for others, OTS or straight up will have more benefit.

IOW, both angles should stress the tunica, but not the exact same areas of the tunica.

Hey RB, try this while stretching straight out. Put your butt on the edge of your chair, then grab it whereever, then put your arms aggainst the inner-top of the thighs for leverage. I used to do these while standing, but now can while seated. Hope this helps.

1.25 inches down, 1.75 to go!!!!!! For 8" NBP

Kevin, sounds like what I’ve been doing, and you’re right it does add leverage, but I can still hold a stretch longer straight up.

Bib, thanks…

Bib, given what you posted, I paid particular attention to what I was feeling/stretching today.

Straight up no doubt hit’s the tunica directly. For me though, straight out (9 o’clock) gives the feeling of lig stretching. If I lower the angle as I stretch, the isolation and lig feeling is intensified. I get the feeling of pulling a very strong cord between my hand and pubic bone, most likely the suspensory lig. I had thought before this was perhaps the septum resisting stretching, but maybe given my individual physiology and LOT of 7 I need to skip straight out and do only straight up? Or if my lig is stressed at 9, should I continue to work straight out as well?

What’cha think?

Damn, where’s that auto bump button when you need it…

:)

Thanks for the heads up.

That’s what I did. Ironically, I actually typed that I planned to do that in my response to you, then deleted it for fear of giving others the same idea… :)

RB,

>Ironically, I actually typed that I planned to do that in my response to you, then deleted it for fear <

You know, several times I have typed something into the box, decided I didnt want to post it and delete a paragraph or two, then Thunder makes a passing comment about what I deleted, or uses the same words I put and stuff. I think he secretly can monitor all posts before they are posted and read them! I know, I know, thats very unrealistic. He’s probably just psychic.

RB, the answer might be that you acheive some temporary stretch of the tunica, which might raise your LOT slightly. I remember you saying to me once that you could build fatigue in several angles sometimes, because of regular work. Did you try checking LOT during a session? Maybe that is true, probably not. If I were you I would just go for the OTS angles, to be sure.

SS4

No, I never checked my LOT during a session. Figured it would be cheating :)

All my PE over the weekend was done stretching straight up towards my chin. Tunica got very relaxed and soft feeling, like the good old days :)

As I sit here this morning not having even done a session yet, I can still feel this weekends workout. I plan to concentrate on this angle for awhile, or at least until Bib tells me I’m stupid :)

RB,

I have not been through the main members section yet, but I got your PM. Only have about six pages of posts to look at in this seciton. Damn.

Divide and conquer. If you are working on the tunica, and you think the ligs are coming into play SO, then go only with straight up or any number of angles around there. If your LOT rises, then you can go back to the lower angles.

Sorry for the delay.

Bigger

No problem Bib, that’s what I settled on and have been doing. So far, seems so good. Time will tell, and I’ll keep an eye on my LOT as things hopefully progress.

Hope your away time was pleasant… :)
