My instinct tells me that your probably so excited to be extending and gaining, that you might be putting too much pressure on your extender and that’s why it’s not fastening properly.
The fact is that extenders have been used by a ton of people. And so there must be a way for you to use it as well. So try this if you’re inclined…if you can’t compress, reduce your rod length by 1/4 inch. If you can compress, then hold off on using max tension.
The point is to find the setting that would allow you to strap in comfortably for an hour at a time. Once you’re strapped in without having the extender fall off, you can tweak with the tension over time to add more force.
