Heavier weight vs. More time w/ Hanging

What is the consensus on this board? On another board the majority say more sets is safer and better. They argue progressive hanging causes injuries and most can’t hang heavy weights.

One of the most impressive gainers (with pics) said he never went over 8 pounds but hung 2-3 hrs. a day.

I am confused since most say you will never gain if you don’t go progressive. I have gained pretty good and I never went over 8 lbs. and to be honest , more than that seems to be pushing it.

Any “personal” (quote Because I want to hear person stuff not ‘I heard Bib say”…) experiences? or do i need to progress in order to gain with hanging?

It is hard to say without a database of people logging their workouts and then looking at the statistics.

I didn’t gain until I hit 10 pounds. However, I almost never hit over 10 hours a week. Regretfully the months that I gained the best where both at an increased weight and amount of sets.

I have never gone beyond 17.5 pounds but I don’t see why 20 pounds for example would now be bad for me.

There have definitely been members here and other sites that have hung around 10 pounds and far more hours than I do, that didn’t gain anything. I always wonder what would have happened if they increased the weight. I didn’t follow up on each person so I don’t really know what the results where.

The issue for some people is that due to a busy life schedule maybe they can only hang 1 hour a day. If they stop seeing results at 8 pounds or the results start coming to a crawl then maybe they need to change the weight variable.

Now from my own experience I have gone up to 17.5 pounds with no injuries. The last 14 months I have been very sporadic with my hanging. Yet I can start at 10 pounds without to much of an issue.

I think people that hurt themselves with progressive hanging probably rushed up in weight to fast or where not listening to their bodies.

I am curious about the other board what they are basing the information that progressive hanging causes injuries. Did they get injured or are they just assuming. What are they basing “most can’t hang heavy weights” off of? Also what do they consider heavy? In my mind I think 30 pounds plus.

I guarantee that I can pull my penis with far greater than 30 pounds of force. Not saying I do this.

Just as a side note. Speaking for myself only. I didn’t increase the weight in order to see how much I can do or compete with someone else.

I was no longer getting the stretching feeling that I was getting from the previous weight. So I increased the weight based off of what my body was telling me. If I gained 1/4” a month and did it consistently then I would have never increased the weight. The weight for me is just a tool.
