How to handle the best wrapping tape
The use of a wrap to keep PEweights or golf rings on has been a subject of ongoing interest. The following is from my experience and certainly can be added upon. I welcome any additional perspectives.
I have come to the conclusion that Coban by 3M is really the best self sticking tape for wrapping. It beats an ace bandage because it’s only 1 inch wide. It beats Curad because it stretches and can be used over and over. It allows for the control of compression and it lasts for weeks.
I have found however that if mistreated at the onset of usage that it can become useless very quickly. Therefore I have a suggestion to those that might have had trouble with this wrap.
When you get the tape new, unwrap it from the roll and carefully re-wrap it back on. After you have it all in a roll again, squeeze the roll to lock it all together. At this point begin again to unroll and do the whole procedure over again. Do this 5 or 6 times and when your done you will have tape that will resist folding on the edges and will stick to itself but not so much to your skin. That doesn’t mean that it won’t stick to your skin but believe me it won’t stick as hard or burn and sting as much getting it off. Shortly you will have a fine tape that WON”T stick to your skin at all but will have very nice elastic properties.
I don’t suggest using Coban for a hanger wrap. I haven’t tried it but it seems it would be ruined very quickly. I like to use Johnson and Johnson First Aid Hurt-Free tape. It will stick to itself a little but it will give the hanger a good grip. Some of you might want to use Theraband on top of it to give more bulk. I only use the Hurt-Free tape to compress my skin a little so it doesn’t pinch in the hanger.
