Just finished building the captains wench

Well, what can I say, I just finished building the captins wench and I must say its really comfortable. My homemad bib was really starting to hurt me. The only problem I am having is tightening the wench enough. Im uncut so it kinda rolls over the skin after awhile and its too hard to manually tighten the wench enough. Im probably going to use a cable clamp.

Woops my mistake I am currently using the cable clamp but I might start using a normal hardware clamp.

You have quickly hit this ol’ home-brews soft-spot, so to speak.
If you want to continue using the CableClamp (which I recommend over a less oval shaped clamp) consider varying the amount of wrap you use in order to achieve an adequate grip.

Hey Cappy,

Its bucketing down over here in Sydney today, I can’t work, so I thought that I’d go and buy all the supplies for the Wench.

While I was looking for the velcro, I found one (called One Wrap) that already has the loops on one side and the hooks on the other. As well as saving extra work (sticking the two together), I think that it would be more pliable and softer than the two velcros stuck together.

What say ye?

I know the stuff you’re referring to - it is significantly thinner material than the industrial stuff I originally recommended. I have played with it a bit and find it to work well. The one drawback - and not a significant one - is that it will become very very pliable with a few weeks use, once the Wench has “broken in”. Some of you Pilgrims may find this a positive, others may not like it.
I think it is a matter of personal preference.

BTW- it does leave you in need of a small amount of sticky back hook velcro for your grippers and strap loop. So you may have to go back out into that downpour down under.

Thanks for the reply Cappy. I will give it a go and report back with my results anyway. Oh, and I picked up some sticky stuff for the grippers and loop while I was there.
Not just a pretty face hey!! (Just as well, otherwise I would have very little going for me!!)
Not having any luck with the grippers though. I think I will go back and re-read the thread and go for the alternatives.
