mr6inch,

You should email Bib about this.

ICM.

Did you take viagra before putting your bib on?

:chicken:

Nice pic of your keyboard. Where’s the bib?

Seriously, why did you send a pic that is so blurry you can’t see a thing?

It can be hard to take pics with cheap digital cameras, the shutter time adjusts itself according to lighting conditions. Best to place it on the table, so it cant move. Shutter times can be as much as 2 seconds on some models :/

mr6,

Send me an email and I will send you the plastic parts. No worries.

mr6,

I forgot to add, when you get the new parts, be sure to put it back together exactly as it was, even down to washer for washer, and nut for nut. Also, I will send a matched set so you will need to replace both.

Be sure when you tighten down that the tightening washer is firmly seated in the washer seat before tightening down a lot. If it is too high, it might happen again.

I had a Bib breakage also last night, but nowhere near as severe as yours. Mine seemed to be a result of erosion from usage. The plastic where the washer (which rests against the adjustment wingnut)
rests has been slowly eroded, and would slip off almost very time I hung. I tried a larger washer, which worked temporarilly, but then stopped working (slipping). I was about to give up and beg BiB for some help when I found a solution that works for now — two washers (the smaller one is against the plastic).
Hopefully, this will work until I’m done with my hanging .. fingers crossed

Could I be doing something wrong that has caused the problem? I’ve tried to avoid the erosion since the beginning, by untightening the wingnut completely before unattaching the hanger. Are all Bibs exactly the same in form?

Spiro,

That is kind of strange. The purpose of the washer is to allow the wing nut to slip against the washer when tightening so that the wing nut will not dig into the plastic. For some reason, the wing nut must not be slipping, therefore turning the washer, therefore eroding the plastic. If you can figure out why it is happening, I would appreciate knowing.

>Hopefully, this will work until I’m done with my hanging .. fingers crossed <

You don’t have to do that. If you can send me pics of the erosion, I can send you two more halves. But we need to examine the reason for the erosion also.

The only thing I can think of that could contribute to the problem is that perhaps the washer got turned over, and the rough side is against the wing nut. The rough side is supposed to be against the plastic, and the shiny smooth side against the wing nut.

>Are all Bibs exactly the same in form?<

I have made slight changes to the starter model over time, but the regulars are all the same. Of course, they are all hand made, so none are exactly alike.

SWM emailed me wtih a solution that I forgot to mention. You can put a dab of white lithium grease, or really any kind of good quality lube on the top wing nut and washer, as well as the bolt to take away a lot of the friction of tightening. This will make everything work a lot better.

Just don’t use too much and make a mess.

I used molybdenum disulfide - slick stuff - on the top of the washer and bottom of the wingnut. Lube there does indeed make a big difference.

Another tip is to use a dab of Loctite to secure the hex nut against the bolt head. It prevents the bolt from turning when you attach.

Hey guys,

On the lube note, you could always just rub a pencil along the bolt (graphite). Will also be nice and slick, but not poisonous.

Oh I get it now montegoo, you meant place the inanimate object on the table. I wondered for a moment how placing your dick on the table would produce a clearer picture. That’s that cleared up now.

Strange or not, I was concerned that this part would eventually break over time since I got the Bib. However, I expected it just to outright break from continuous pressure, not to slowly erode.

The only explanation I have found so far has been what you’ve said, that the wingnut was turning the washer instead of ‘slipping.’ Still, I’m not completely convinced ..

Something I found a few weeks ago is probably related — I noticed that I couldn’t tighten my hanger nearly as well as I used to, even though it felt like I was tightening very tight (in that the wingnut was hard to tighten more). I inspected the screw, and found that there were segments on it that have been warped, preventing any wingnut or hexnut from going further. So maybe the washer got caught in a screw ridge somehow, warping the ridge and causing more of the same problem in the future?

I replaced the screw with a 2”, (Unfortunately, Home Depot didn’t have any 2.5”) but the damage was already done at that point anyway. BTW, Where can I find those 2.5” screws that the hanger comes with?

Great! I will do that.

I apologize for the photo quality. These were the best out of at least 60 different photos. You can’t see
the problem area because it’s either too bright or blurry or far away. I tried different lighting, backgrounds, angles, AND cameras to no avail. I will try again tomorrow if need be.

I suppose this is possible too, but there’s no real way of knowing this now. I lost the original washer (among my own) when I replaced the screw, and wouldn’t know which way it was on now, even if I *could* see a difference between sides of the washer.
