Begginer/first Pump Suggestions?

I am looking to order a basic pump for a reasonable price to give pumping a go. I’d rather not fork out for a really expensive device before finding out if I am OK with pumping.

There are plenty of pumps on ebay for cheap but I’m not sure exactly what I’m looking and if theres much difference between a £10 pump or £100 pump.

I’m looking for an air pump rather than a water pump. Could anybody suggest a good first pump? What should I be looking for?

I recommend Thickwall. Not cheap but it’s good stuff.
If you don’t have pump of good quality, with a gauge and a cylinder in the right size you may not like pumping and even worse injured yourself.
It’s UK based company witch would suit you.
Good luck!

I agree with Patrik

If you try with crappy equipment, you will most likely conclude you dont like it.
Try good safe material with good gauge , to have better understanding.
Even the most expensive ones are cheap considering you are manipulating your personal penis.

Thanks for the responses, could anybody recommend a quality pump say mid range priced then?

Thick wall pumps that patrick suggested look good bust cost about £100.

Sure I can get something decent for me like £50?

That could work, but personally I’d prefer a pump with measurements imprinted on the cylinder.

LeLuv is a popular choice here. You can order one of those from Amazon. Vacutech looks interesting, and is possibly better, but I’d be hard-pressed to buy yet another pump, especially since I have no complaints about LeLuv.

LeLuv is your best choice for budget. Thickwalls are nice but pricey. And LeLuv comes in fractional sizes that nobody else carries. Use one of these with a modified fish air pump.

Thanks, I think I may go for the leluv then.

I’m struggling to find anyone that ships LeLuv to the UK, any suggestions? The ones on amazon don’t seem to ship here.

Or an Equivalent I can get in the UK would also work.

Many pumping kits come with hand pumps that are made out of plastic. More durable ones ironically often cost less. Go to any automotive supply company (online or a store) and ask for a hand pump for bleeding brakes. They even come with a gauge. You don’t need adapters or clamps. Just slide the hose onto it. Here’s one that Amazon sells:

I bought a LeLuv Acrylic Cylinder off eBay and am pleased with it. Don’t forget the automotive hand pump with pressure gauge (Amazon).

Be aware that the LeLuv 2” cylinder is slightly smaller than 2”.

LeLuv is good. It’s not the cheapest, but it’s only a few dollars more than the cheapest while being near the highest quality tubes. I don’t know what size you’re aiming for, but get the 12" tube. If you want to get to 9", you actually need a slightly longer tube to reach 9", and your goals might evolve as you make progress.

A fish air pump you can modify is the best route. Hand pumps turn pumping into a chore and encourage pumping at a higher pressure that I think most pumpers with experience avoid, and it costs less.

As long as you’re achieving a good seal, a hand pump is the way to go. With any form of PE, you want repeatable results. A hand pump with a gauge is essential to that end.

What brand of hand pump do you recommend?

I bought a $60+ one at harbor freight at one time, but if I keep it connected to the tube it loses vacuum pressure within about a minute. I can disconnect the tube from the cylinder and the vacuum seems to last for about 10 minutes. Perhaps it’s just the particular hand pump I bought that is the problem and makes it so I have to pump really often to maintain the vacuum?

Do you increase the vacuum pressure and then disconnect, or do you pump off and on vacillating between pressures? You might have already mentioned this somewhere, but I don’t recall.

Are some hand pumps noisier than others? My house is absolutely silent at night except for fans, and the stable noise of an air pump is hardly noticeable. The squeaking of my hand pump though is really noticeable.

I agree that you always should have a pressure gauge. Years ago I rigged a powerful air pump from parts, but I noticed it fluctuated in the vacuum pressure it produced between 25 inHg and 7 inHg. I never did figure out why it did that because the fish air pump at 5 inHg was more appropriate and I salvaged the rigged pump for parts.

I use the one from Harbor Freight. The are $25 here. I’ve never had to worry about the noise it makes. I can keep it connected to the cylinder with no loss of vacuum.

….

The pressure release lever/button on harbor freight pistol type vacuum pump is very easy to open. I have noticed that if I am not careful to keep the lever clear it can be slightly open. If I am pumping while laying in bed I’ve learned that I need to make sure to place the pump on a smooth area of sheet or blanket because even a wrinkle can open the lever.

You may also want to check that the hose connection is tight. Some of the hoses can stretch over time or develop slight cracks in them. If so, try cutting off an inch or so of the hose until you get to a non stretched section.
