Brake Bleeder Starts At 4hg

I ordered brake bleeder vacuum pump as you guys recommend i just got pump but pointer starts at 4hg does it mean if i want to workout with 4 hg i must go 8 hg at this pump?

Yes.

If you can get at it you can usually move the pointer to the zero position.

Have you done this successfully cap?

It’s normally easy to pry off the plastic front but if you just twist the needle it’ll spring back and if you hold behind the needle with pliars you might end up with a minus reading that doesn’t show due to the stop.

I’ve taken the lense of and wasn’t able to get it back to zero.

Maybe I was lucky with the one I fixed, as you said I gripped the part behind the needle with pliers and was able to move the needle with the edge of a screwdriver.
Maybe it depends how tight the needle is riveted on ?

I also noticed once I’d done it that the entire face could be rotated so that would have been an easier fix, prob every gauge is slightly different.

I wonder why there’s only 3 full marks between 0 and 5. Maybe it wouldn’t register 1hg so the first full mark is actually 2hg?

I have tried to "zero" these gauges before with mixed success. Sometimes the problem gets worse. Ultimately what is wanted is accurate and reproducible readings in the low range of 1-6" Hg. Even if you get the gauge to show zero it does not necessarily mean that "5" on the gauge will be accurately measuring 5" Hg. I suggest you get yourself some tubing and make a manometer - then you will know for sure - see the thread links above for details.

I happened to drop it, and it went to zero. It has been working great ever since. I calibrated it with another gauge, and they concurred.

Just be careful with that guage fro LA pump mate.Mine was giving false readings from day one.And that was before I dropped it after that it was worse.If your guage has plastic on the back of the guage or you can here something rattling around inside it when you shake it throw it in the bin and get a new one.

My first brake bleeder was the same. Very annoying!
