Cylinder too big? Some pain at base.

Cylinder too big? Some pain at base.

Hi everyone,

I’ve just received pumping starter kit from a UK company. Both the pump and the cylinder seem to be very good quality. The problem I think is the size of the cylinder, before ordering I looked gprent’s ‘Selecting Your Cylinder Size’ thread and because the size of my dick (4.25” girth at base and 4.5” mid-shaft) I posted a question asking whether I could go with the 1.75” cylinder instead of the 1.5” one because my mid-shaft measurement was on the upper limit for the 1.5” one. He said that I could probably get away with a 1.75” one.

However when I received the cylinder it wasn’t actually 1.75” but about 1.875”. I reported this to the company and they said that I should give the one I had a go but if it didn’t work out for me they would send me the 1.5” and let me keep the one I already had. I’ve now used it three times (3-5hg at ten minutes, once a day) and each time it has been quite painful pressing into the skin around the base of my dick (not the actual base but surrounding area), it feels like it is pressing into some nerves and this can’t be good.

My question is whether this is due to the size of cylinder or something I am doing wrong? I have no problem maintaining a seal and I put a little massage oil round the base of my dick and the base of the cylinder to get a seal (though I’m not even sure this is necessary as it seems to easily create a good seal). Could the fact I’ve been using massage oil instead of something like ky jelly be part of the problem? I don’t need to put any lube on my dick because the tube is so large for me that there is never any danger of it getting stuck (if it is touch one side it is miles from the other).

At the moment I am thinking about contacting the company and asking for the 1.5” one, but first I wanted to ask some pumpers their opinion as although the guy made it sound like he would have no problem sending me the smaller one, he is running a company and I am sure he is going to argue that maybe I am doing something wrong.

Thanks in advance,

Ben1966

I’d suggest shifting the position of the tube. Try moving it a little higher or a little lower relative to your base, and see how that works for you.

OK Lampwick I’ll give it a go, cheers. I explained the problem to the guy and he just said that he would send the 1.5" cylinder in the next couple of days. I have to say I am pretty amazed with the service and would highly recommend the company which is https://www.thickwall.co.uk . They have a starter pack at the moment that includes a pump and cylinder for just over £70 depending on the size of the cylinder. Both the pump and the cylinder look like very good quality. If anybody from the UK of ordering from them (they also deliver to Europe for free and the rest of the world for a postage fee) make sure you check the measurement conversion table as although the cylinders diameter is stated in inches this is just the closest size to the nearest quarter inch, the cylinder sizes are actually in millimetres. For example I bought the 1.75" cylinder as I mentioned above, but it is actually 48mm according to the table, which is actually 1.88". So just be sure before you order.

I am also going to look at getting some kind of rubber silicone padding to try and make it more comfortable.

Ben1966, that is another good idea - some kind of silicone donut or sleeve might help you.

Some guys are very sensitive in that area , but it will probably fade with time and usage. However, in the meantime I would lay off the 5Hg and leave it at 3 Hg until you have had more experience with the pumping, and your unit is more conditioned

Even drop down to 2 Hg but you would probaby have to hold the tube in place

Thanks for the advice petitfaun. The reason I was putting it up to 5Hg was because I could barely feel it at lower levels - on my actual dick I mean. I remember from the Vacuum 101 thread avocet8 says that

Most men are comfortable between 3 inches and 6 inches of pressure. You will need to find your own comfort level, but make it comfortable. You can pump 4 days a week and still get gains, but I pump nearly every day.

but the only place it was uncomfortable was around the base. He also said

Quote
There should be a firm sensation of pulling and a pleasant sensation of expansion of your shaft and glans

but for me there was not really this kind of feeling, that’s why I pushed it up higher levels, as it didn’t feel like it was doing anything.

But while I’m waiting for the smaller cylinder I’ll use lower vacuum levels, and like I said above try and get my hands on some kind of silicone padding or as Lampwick mentioned some kind of silicone doughnut or sleeve.

You don’t have to ‘feel’ the vacuum - pleasant as it may be :) but providing is is causing some expansion, that should be sufficient. You can gradually increase . But at the first sign of fluid buildup cut back on things.

You must remember that the penis has nerves that are designed to give you pleasure. - Otherwise we wouldn’t be here. So In a way you are getting more than you fair share :)

Thanks for the replies petitfaun (on both threads). I’m confused about something else though, people seem to say that it takes a long time (maybe 4-6 months+) to get any semi-permanent gains with pumping, but I also remember reading that there will be some temporary erect gains immediately after pumping. Is this the case or am I just making this up? Because after a ten minute session my erect girth is exactly the same as it always has been.

Ten minute session is probably too short to see any noticeable (temporary) difference, also using a cock ring while pumping really helps with temporary girth.

Well that makes sense Pillars, but I’ll build up to longer times and using a cock ring later. I’m just following the recommendations from the Vacuum 101 thread. It’s good to know this is not unusual though.

Thanks

I found that stretching gave me the best gains when using the pump. Jelqing did nothing for me when pumping though.

You never can tell how you will make gains. It’s one of those things peculiar to you.

That is a wise thing to do.

OK, so I just received the smaller cylinder. What a difference! What I don’t understand is that in the smaller tube at the same HG’s of vacuum the feeling was much more intense - it like like about twice the suction. It’s been a long time since I studies physic at school but shouldn’t the same HG of vacuum inside the tube feel the same regardless of the size of the tube? Obviously you would have to pump more air out to get to the same HG but I wouldn’t think it would feel any difference. However where as with the previous cylinder it felt like 5 HG’s of pressure was next to nothing, with the smaller one 2-3 seems sufficient and 5 seems excessive.

Anyway scientists out there want to explain this one to me? I’m sure it’s a pretty stupid misunderstanding of what HG means!

One of life’s peculiarities I guess. But it may just be that you are getting a better seal against your body with the smaller tube.
