First time pumping...

Well, not really pumping per se. I didn’t buy a pump. Ok, here’s the story.

I’ve been intrigued with pumping since getting into PE a couple of months ago. So a couple of days ago I bought a gravel cleaner tube. I figured it’d be a cheap alternative to test the waters. Unfortunately, the one I bought was way too small (1.65” outside diameter). I couldn’t even get my flaccid penis in it more than an inch after a lot of effort. But I did notice the pumping effect when I sucked the air out via the provided tube. So that got me thinking…I wonder if they make a 2” diameter one. Well, they do, so like a couple of others (hence, where I got the idea) I went and got one today. Just got done with my first session and I’m happy with it and will be adding this to my routine as well. I’ll be starting with three 5 minute session between sets of dry jelqs. The only thing I need to add to it is something like an o-ring on the bottom to aid in comfort and that should be easy to come by. I think I will stick with this for a while to see how it goes as an addition to my current routine before purchasing a more expensive unit.

I think for initial experimental purposes with pumping, your home set up and 3 x 5 minutes sets are okay. You can decide later if you want to invest more into a professional cylinder, gauge, etc. I started out initially with my own homemade cylinder and locally purchased MityVac pump/gauge before moving on to better cylinders, which made a huge difference in my pumping results.

If you are going to spend the time pumping, you might as well do it right. I made my mistakes by slowly working up the quality line of cheap pumps to moderate prices pumps. The ones with the rubber gasket at the base of the tube and squeeze ball for a vac device or plastic bicycle pump like device. The pumps did not work well and wore out quickly.

I would have saved money in the long run, if I had just gone out and bought the high quality pump I ended up with in the first place. Go to:

Thanks gprent, but I didn’t plan on going through a bunch of pumps before I bought a good one. I just wanted to try this for the rest of the month a then worry about buying one. The $140 isn’t bad, considering how they’re made. I was going to buy one from there anyway if this panned out for me through the rest of this month.

I bought a pump from ebay for a good price and it has lasted and works great for me.

This last week I have been using a heating pad wrapped around the tube. I have been able to pack the tub in half the time that it used to take me. I spend less time in the tube. I’m packing it without my penis looking all bloated and crazy.

Average, I have 5 tips for making the Deluxe pump package, if purchased, just a little more deluxe.

To make the system completely leak proof, in addition to the O ring that comes supplied for the pressure fitting on the top of the tube, wrap the threads of this fitting with plumbers Teflon tape, before screwing it in.

As a lube for sealing the tube to your cock, I would recommend KY jelly or the equivalent cheaper water based lubes from Target or Walmart. These water based lubes provide a perfect airtight seal and clean up is so much easier than using an oil base lube.

For comfort, I would preheat my tube in the oven at a setting of say 150 degrees. You can put the tube with the pressure fitting in the oven at this temp with no problem.

Preheat your KY or equivalent jelly in the micro wave for 10-15 seconds. Just tap a little air pocket at the nozzle so the jelly doesn’t burp out when you open it.

While pumping, I wrapped the tube in an electric heat pad. This aids in expansion in the tube, makes it very comfortable, and eliminates condensation from forming. Bought my heating pad at Target for $15, made by Kaz, 12x15 inch pad, with 4 heat settings. The model number is HP710.

I’ve been wrapping the tube with a heating pad. The only problem, so far, has been the comfort of the tube base (which is understandable given what it is and the fact that I haven’t had the time to go look for anything to aid that).

So far so good. Nothing spectacular, but I didn’t expect pumping to make my unit king-sized overnight. I’m doing what’s comfortable to me, pumping until slight discomfort and not more. Would be able to do more with a decent tube, which I intend on purchasing at the end of the month.

The good news is that I pack (maybe not at tightly as some of you) about 1/4 of the tube by the second or final 5 minute session.

One thing that concerns me is the few threads concerning LA Pump not returning emails. Is this still the case? Or does anyone know? I guess I could just test for myself. If this is becoming the norm for them, then I will be looking elsewhere when I purchase a better setup. And another question, I’ve seen pictures of people (obviously or it seems obvious to me) over pumping. I don’t want my dick to look like these photos, they look deformed (full of fluid…etc). While I understand why longer sessions will result in some build up, this isn’t the norm is it?

After this week of three 5 minute session, I plan on going to two 10 minute session and incrementing like that. Does the sound reasonable?

Thanks, avocet. I went ahead and ordered from them (i.e. I like what is happening with the budget setup and plan on continuing with pumping as an addition to my routine). We’ll see how it turns out.

average, sounds like you already have a nice one on the way; but I’ll tell you what I did to make my gravel tube more comfortable — I rounded the bottom with electrical tape in multiple overlapping layers (so that it was half stuck to the tube and half not, sticky side in ((picture the tape wrapped like a ring around the bottom with half of the sticky surface exposed))), then took a pair of scissors, cut the tape into ~1cm increments and folded the increments in to stick on the inside of the tube; this formed a “tape ring” around the base that added some comfort.

Ordered the pump last night and it’s already shipped. And they responded to an email question I sent as well.

Seems like LA Pump has good service to me!

I know this is probably a mute point since you ordered another tube, but another thing you can do with the gravel tube is heat it with a propane torch or other heating source gradually bend it outward (I used a pliers) to create a smooth flange. I did that & it’s extremely comfortable.
