I have a crappy pumping device. The cylinder is great and has a tube coming out of it that connects to a bulb on the end that your squeeze to create vacuum pressure. The thing is it has no gauge to tell how much pressure has been created inside the cylinder. The bulb isn’t air tight and lets air creep back in the same way it sucks air out. If I go to home depot and I want to replace the bulb with a “hand held, pressure gauge, pumping device”, what is the name of that device and is there anything specific I should look for before purchasing?

Before that, try McMasterCarr.com They’ll be more apt to have something. A devise with that type of bulb is the old Blood Pressure cuff. I never knew how those things worked to create a vacuum. I understand the pressure from that type of bulb but can’t reason the vacuum part.

This is the pump you want: Harbor Freight Tools – Quality Tools at Discount Prices Since 1977

Look to see if you have a Harbor Freight where you live and go and pick it up. If you have to order it, I would pay extra for fast shipping as there regular shipping is slow as hell.

You can also find a plastic brake bleeder pump with gauge from Checker Auto. The only drawback is the plastic pump won’t be as durable as the all brass pump from Harbor Freight.

Exactly…also autozone.

My local Sears sells MiTvac (spelling?) with a gauge, fluid trap and adapters for I think about $30.

That’s a good pump, but the handle IS going to break. If you get it, beef up the handle right away. It’ll break right at the fulcrum point.

Damn that pump only lasted me a month. You get what you pay for..LOL
I probably got a bad one I’m guessing.
My original Kaplan’s plastic pump lasted for over 2 years.

TEN COMMANDMENTS The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments in a Courthouse? You cannot post "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery" and "Thou Shall Not Lie" in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians...It creates a hostile work environment.

Pumper for a while got to the square dick 7X7 , hanging now 7-2010

I would also advise to avoid the harborfreight pump. Mine wouldn’t pump straight out of the box. Looks great, just not designed very well. My plastic pump from Autozone lasted almost a year before the handle broke, and I still use the pump gauge. I’m now going back to basic, just sucking on a hose with my mouth. I expect that this pump will last a lifetime.

I also had bad luck with a harborfreight pump. It worked great for a few weeks, then just stopped sucking.

I found replacement handles for my MiTyVac pump. I forget who had them but might be able to find them again.
