My first attempt at pumping

Reason I ask is, when I went into AutoZone, they had no clue what I was asking for. So I went up and down the aisles ‘till I spotted it myself.

When I found it, the package didn’t even say "MityVac", it just said "vacuum pump." But it was clearly the same item used by VacuTech.

After I got it home and got the item out of the package, I saw the words "MityVacII" imprinted on the side of the handle.

So keep your eyes open in those auto stores. They might not even know what you’re talking about. Tell them you’re looking for a vacuum pump device called "MityVac", used for bleeding brake fluid. And if they still can’t help you, scour the aisles yourself.

ED - when I started looking for my vacuum device, I called all the parts stores in town. I had NO DAM IDEA what I was asking for, and must have sounded like a real moron.

Anyway, a member of my church is a machinist, and I finally asked him what the device was called, if i were to look for one, and he got a kinda silly look on his face, but said “it is used for hydraulic measurement and working on brakes.” he told me to ask for a BRAKE VACUUM pump - which I subsequently did.

The reason that he got that look on his face was that he must have been terribly confused by my request and earnestness at searching for one … because he KNOWS that I am completely ham-handed at anything mechanical, and once he had to “bail me out” after I had screwed up a “minor” repair on the car.

Guess he is still wondering, because he saw it on my desk a month ago (not the assembled pump mechanism), and left shaking his head.

If he only knew …

I looked the pumps up on the internet a while ago and found that they’re for brake bleeding (and saw what they looked like). That was good because I had no idea what to ask for in stores and didn’t want to sound like an idiot. So, I know what to look and ask for, I just have to find one at a decent price. Thanks again for the help!
