Calibration

Hi all,

I am no expert at PE but before retirement I came from a scientific/engineering background, so I feel that what I am about to say is valid.
Any kind of instrument or gauge needs to be regularly calibrated to ensure accuracy, if not at best all you can say is that it is a rough guide to measurement!
Maybe I am speaking out of turn, but I cannot somehow imagine that there is somewhere to go take your penis pump gauge to get it checked!

Bottom line is I don’t really see the point in buying a pump with a gauge, just rely on your senses and avoid pain!

Good old common sense!

Regarding gauge use and calibration:

This thread might be of interest - the title of the thread is a bit confusing but read on anyway.

Anyone using water lift to measure/regulate vacuum?

So, calibration is indeed possible at home with inexpensive materials. I think most of the cheap gauges are inaccurate especially on the low end. But, it doesn’t make a difference if the gauge is precise - i.e. it is wrong the same amount each and every time (sample).

I suggest that a gauge is helpful but should not be the only guide - one must also use "common sense" and PI’s (physiological indicators). The gauge prevents over-pumping. Keep in mind sometimes the body and mind are numb - so the gauge says when to stop.

Just like the speedometer

Hi,

Well yes I suppose, but then using this line of thought it is like when your are driving too fast. Your speedometer tells you so, but do you slow down?
No you don’t because it feels so good, just like pumping with a little too much pressure.

At best a gauge can only be a rough guide no more, no less, so I am not convinced by all the hype that you see on sites selling very expensive pumping systems.

Sure I want good equipment to use on my body, but as I said in a previous post, gauges need regular calibration to ensure accuracy and somehow I cannot imagine your average pumper finding in-house equipment to calibrate their gauges.

Having said this it’s a free world (or so I am lead to believe) so buy/use a system with a gauge if you want.

Happy pumping!

Strangely my speedometer hasn’t been calibrated since my vehicle was made but it reads the same as a GPS speedo (non-military GPS has an added fuzz factor but it’s still accurate enough). True, if a police officer was following you and using his speedo to gauge your speed, he’d need to prove it was calibrated correctly but if your speedo is out by 5% it doesn’t matter. Everything you buy has a tolerance, whether it’s kitchen scales or a bridge. Bridges are very expensive though, so they probably aren’t worth buying for the average person. Especially suspension bridges, which tend to require a lot of maintenance.

Speaking of expense, there are very expensive pumping systems without gauges and you can buy a pump (the actual pump bit) with a gauge to use on a cylinder from amazon for peanuts. Cylinders can be expensive but they also aren’t terribly difficult to manufacture at home from a length of pipe.

The system lopopo bought is crap. Problem one it has a one size fits all cylinder, problem two it has no gauge. this is great if you have no serious intentions of doing anything other than short term expansion through fluid buildup but is useless for a serious PEer. Kind of like a guy who is speeding but likes the feeling.

Gauges are useful for more than just knowing the exact pressure. I’d argue their best usage is to maintain consistency in your pumping sessions - i.e. knowing the pressure relative to your last workout. For that, it doesn’t matter if the gauge is a little off. And any drift it may undergo is likely small compared to how much you’ll intentionally change the pressure in a given time period.

The biggest problem when pumping without a gauge is that the feeling produced by a certain vacuum level will vary wildly from day to day, which makes it very difficult to control intensity. People are also more likely to overpump when they aren’t controlled by a gauge reading, simply because it feels good.

How it feels is better

Hi,

I wholeheartedly agree with the last post.

It is much better to listen to your body and how it feels.

As I said in my first post when I started this thread, gauges can be very misleading, and as mentioned by others even dangerous if you set unrealistic target pressures!!

I never have used a gauge, and yes I have made a few mistakes, but one learns from experience what you can and cannot do to your body!

Just go by the feel and remember it’s not like the pumping iron saying, ‘No Pain No Gain’!

The penis is not a muscle!

Bye for now.

>I wholeheartedly agree with the last post.<

And yet your opinion is exactly the opposite.

Still not convince

Hi memento,

I like to reflect on something you wrote in an earlier post:

True, if a police officer was following you and using his speedo to gauge your speed, he’d need to prove it was calibrated correctly!

Not sure where you come from, but in my country you would be pushing your luck if you tried this with a police officer. The equipment they use in vehicles intended for catching people that speed is state of the art technology, they don’t have to prove anything to you mate, your booked end of subject!!

However when it comes to some piece of made in Taiwan crap gauge that could be wildly inconsistent from day to day, what is the point!

As I said before any kind of gauge has to be regularly checked for accuracy, maybe once every three months because depending on how well made they are they can give very high or low readings.

But not to worry it’s a free world.
