Regular LA-cylinder VS Boston Sleeve Master Cylinder - Anyone tried both?

Regular LA-cylinder VS Boston Sleeve Master Cylinder - Anyone tried both?

Hey guys,

I was surfing around when I found this cylinder by BostonPump:

I currently own a regular cylinder from LA-Pump and I`m very satisfied, but this one looks even more comfortable?

I need to step up a size soon so I might just take the chance on this one.

Thank you in advance!

John

No clue guys? Come on! Help a brother out:)

If no one vouches for the Boston-cylinder I`m going for the LA-cylinder as I know what I`m getting;)

Thanks!

ON EDIT — I reread your post — did you know you can get that sleeve separately? It would probably fit your current LA cylinder:

I’ve been doing some research on Boston cylinders too.

I did a search on “Boston” in the Pumper’s Forum and what I learned is that people who have the Boston products say they are very well constructed. Apparently they are one of the few cylinders that are a one piece construction. (Many others consist of a tube with a circular piece of acrylic glued on top. Not that that is bad thing, but one piece construction is more appealing to me).

At any rate, the products are supposed to be excellent — every one who has one here on Thunder’s says that they are top notch products.

There is a thread too on that rubber sleeve — that was well liked as well.

Additionally I have found that Boston Pump sells on ebay — the prices with ebay “Buy It Now” are a little cheaper than on the website and shipping is a flat $5.95.

Thanks bro!

I guess I will order one today. Do you know if the connectors are the same on each brand?

I don’t know Boston Pump from Boston Baked Beans so I took a quick look.

That sleeve does look like it could be quite comfortable, I might get one. The actual pump in their package deal is a cheap plastic one so I wouldn’t ever go with their package deal.

Both Boston and LAPD get nothing but good reviews as far the the cylinders go.

Renholder, please do keep us informed as to how you like it. i for one would be interested to hear.

Renholder — I don’t know for sure but it looks like the thing is stretchy enough to fit any kind of base.

You could always call or email them to find out. I asked them a question thru ebay - it took them a couple or three days to get back, but they did answer me. Was the holidays too so that might have affected answer time.

Boston Pump has several styles of bases too — a flat one, a flanged one, one with no base. They seem to suggest the sleeve will fit all of those.

Here is one of those threads I found on the sleeve — Kol-Tun suggests that they will fit any cylinder:

I have both.

It is more comfortable with the sleeve, and seals much more easily.

The sleeve does not fit the LA cylinder very well.

The gauge-pump that LA sells is much better than the gauge-pump that Boston, or Kaplan, et al., sell. But one can also buy a brass mity-vac pump with a guage elsewhere for less than LA pumps sells theirs.

The wet dry pump that Boston sells is a work-horse.

I don’t know why a one piece cylinder is any better. I will say that the acrylic that LA pumps uses for their cylinders is a better quality for our purposes. It is designed so that if it shatters, it does so with out any sharp edges. So there is an extra degree of safety should something catastrophic happen.

That said, I’ve used the Boston cylinders I have more and haven’t really felt like I’m at risk. :)

Before: I'd like to show you something I'm very proud of, but you'll have to move real close.

After: I\'d like to show you something I\'m very proud of, but you guys in the front row will have to stand back.
