Vaseline or water based lubricant?

Could the forum throw any light on recommendations I have read about while pumping to use a water based lubricant and not oil based (Vaseline) as it “closes the skin pores” and doesn’t allow the vacuum to work effectively?

Its sounds very much like rubbish to me but I am open to the experience of the forum..

I am doing my best along with hanging and clamping to increase my girth. I get no pleasure at all out of pumping (I know people do but to me it just less painful than hanging!) So Vaseline or water based it means nothing to me except a means to an end.

It does however make cleaning the cylinder much easier.

Hmm didn’t know that about the skin pores, I use Vaseline. I am interested in this one too? Can any one bright light over this theme?

Lapdist, one of the companies that sells pumps, promotes/sells water based lubricants. So, maybe there is a reason? I am not sure.

Water-based lubes are thought to be safer with the internal seals and gaskets and such.

The feed back so far is water lubricant rather that oil based out of practically of cleaning etc and not out of efficient of results, would that be fair to say?

I have tried hard to find the article where is talked about not using oil lubricants but I cant find it now!

Consider Albolene, a skin cleanser actors and women use to remove make-up. Similar in Vaseline in consistency but white. It also gives off this sort of warming sensation and is great for jelking between pumps. “Dawn” liquid dish detergent cuts through it like a charm at clean-up.

I’ve used Albolene, although more for jelqing than for pumping.
If you’re thinking about trying Albolene and inclined to experiment, you might be interested in this recipe I happened upon to make your own:

Gulf wax (used for canning): 1/2 of 1 bar
Petroleum jelly: 4 tbs
Mineral oil: 16 oz

Melt together the wax and petroleum jelly. Add mineral oil. Heat slowly and after it’s all blended together, pour into a container and let it stand ‘til it hardens. Melts quickly when you start to use it and just keeps getting more and more slick.

Note that I have not tried this recipe, so I can’t vouch for it. It seems to be on the right track in terms of ingredients, though, and this would be MUCH cheaper than the real Albolene. (In defense of Albolene, a little goes a long way, so it is pretty cost effective even at its relatively high cost for what it is.)

For pumping, I have also had good luck with sparing application of Wet Platinum , which is a silicone-based formula. Again, not cheap, but a little goes a long way.

Water-based. Not so messy, works just fine. Vaseline brand lotion is my favorite. (the green one)

Also in the WD40 FAQ it says that WD40 (which is a petroleum based product) is safe to use on just about anything except polycarbonate (I’m pretty sure this is what most penis pump cylinders are made out of) and clear polystyrene plastic.

Like I said, lotion. I bet some of the oil-based lubes might not be too easy on certain plastics. I’ve used lotion for years, and my pump loves it. Easy cleanup too.

So far its spilt between what feels good and preference, nothing to do with results. I am not to sure about WD40 that’s a chemical we use at work for de-greasing and well as lubrication. I am not to sure about a product that can dissolve grease my on “old man” (UK slang for penis!)

If by “results” you expect someone to say that they got 10% better results by using Vasoline rather than a water-based lube, I don’t think you’re going to see a “results” post. I think the advantage of one lube over another is defined by other factors.

A lube is a lube, and it either does the job of lubrication to some degree, or it does not. Along with that comes other factors, such as cost, availability, how pleasant it is to use, how easy it is to clean up, and whether it is harmful to the cylinder or pump.

I don’t think anyone is recommending pumping with WD40 as a lube.

Back to your original question:

I don’t think the relative advantage of water based lube rather than oil based lube has anything to do with closing the skin pores. I have not seen anyone allege that any lube prevents the vacuum working effectively, but let’s explore that concept for a minute. How much more thoroughly could you “block the skin pores” than by covering your penis with a condom before pumping - and yet, condom pumping is used by some under the theory that it encourages deep (rather than superficial) expansion of the tissues.

So, choose your lube on whatever factor you choose, but not on the basis that some lubes close the skin pores and block vacuum effectiveness.

Oh I probably should have been a little more clear about the point I was trying to make. I wasn’t suggesting that anyone use WD40. I just mentioned it because it is a petroleum based product, and so are many of the lubes that one may choose to use on their penis pump cylinder.

I wouldn’t dare put WD40 on my dick. This skin on your dick is not the same as the skin on your hands.
