What do you use to clean your cylinders??

What do you use to clean your cylinders??

I was just wondering what people use to clean their cylinders.

Would a simple hand soap & warm water be sufficient or should you use dishwahing liquid?

I dont want to end up using the wrong things and find that it will wreck the rubber seal around the nipple.

So far I have just used hand soap which I lather up in my hand and then clean as far into the cylinder as my fingers will reach up.

Mild dish soap and luke warm water for the tube. The O ring is removable and if you rinse that area well and remove the ring and lube it up every now and then, it will be fine. Also, water based lube for your pumping is a hell of a lot easier to clean up. Oil based lube will eventually fog your tube up.

Since I use water based lube, all I use is warm water and a bottle brush and then towel dry.

If you don’t have a bottle brush go buy one.

Dish soap & an old toothbrush for ol’ GM.

Thanks for the information guys.

Also Glandmaster, thanks for the tip about using the toothbrush. The bottle brush would get too much unwanted curiousity as my parents would wonder why all of a sudden I have bought a bottle brush.

Ultra-concentrated Dawn for dishes.

This stuff even cuts through Vaseline. When you’ve washed your tube after use, dry the inside walls with a rolled up hand towel. Drying the inside assures you’ll have less bacterial buildup. Takes a minute.

I see. The vacuum pump goes unnoticed, but the bottle brush… Now that demands an explaination. :)

Explaination? Well…its…umm…you make a good point. :)

I guess it’s easy to dry the pump after cleaning and hiding it under the bed whereas a brush has to take time to dry the bristles properly hence the reason i’d just leave it in the bathroom.

I used a bottle brush and dish soap. Shake the water out of the brush and store it under the bed too.

Hmm, it’s a good idea - using a toothbrush for that purpose. I used to clean the tube with a soft soap, I only shake it up inside the tube, then dry the tube with a bath towel. It works quite well.
