Does your company produce vacuum systems for PE?
It’s just speculation on my part, but I think producing these things could be much more profitable by reducing the price and ramping up production. PE is understandably pretty popular, I wouldn’t say penis pumping is even a niche hobby. I’d say about 40% of men have bought a novelty penis pump at some point in their life. I think 100 USD is a reasonable price for a top of the line vacuum system, but it might be more profitable to reduce the cost to around 30 to 50 USD. I would recommend ditching digital interfaces for a dial system. Three dials could control frequency, the duration of the vacuum, and the vacuum pressure. My own experimentation hasn’t shown much use for dynamic pumping other than increasing blood flow after a pump session so the selling point for me would be a device that offered a range of accurate static vacuum pressures.
I wouldn’t build anything that needs a particular OS to function, it’s too big of a risk and totally out of your control. If you were set on an OS controlled function, I would build it on a linux application that is unlikely to become incompatible with newer versions.
I wouldn’t say that there is any leading brand in penis pumps just yet. Leluv has a good market on cylinders. A vacuum apparatus producer could easily establish itself as a leading brand, the brand itself could become valuable. The FDA could become a complication for such a brand if overt claims are made, but you could probably easily avoid that by marketing the pump for aquariums by simply also having a outlet for outgoing air, which if I’m guessing correctly about the prefabricated parts for most pumps would be very easy. And why not design it so it also functions as an aquarium pump? It would only add value to the device for crypto penis pumpers and I wouldn’t mind having adjustable pressure aquarium pump for deep water ponds and tanks.
If I was in this business, I would produce models on a yearly basis so that adjustments could be made to the design without having a bunch of left over stock from the previous year to sell. I would not design it to have a limited life to boost future sells because it would hurt brand integrity and it’s not necessary since people will eventually damage their pump by trying to use it for water pumping with an inadequate water reservoir or they will be inconsistent, throw away their penis pump set up, then buy another one in 5 years. Having a few people still using a 20 year old device is free brand advertisement. If the sale price is kept low enough, it will remove the resell market (who wants to buy someone’s used penis pump set to save 20 dollars?)
Using an offhand calculation, I think there’s a market for selling 1.5 million units per year in the USA if the market for penis pump vacuum systems was completely taken. This is assuming half the US population is male, there’s a 45 year period in which a male might purchase a penis pump system, and 40% of men purchase a penis pump system at some point in their life. 350 million / 2 / 45 x .4 = 1.55 million. Like I said, it’s off hand and doesn’t take into consideration things like age demographic distribution, income fluctuations, cultural acceptance of the practice of PE between rapidly changing demographic groups of the USA, etc.. Assuming 1.5 million yearly sales, even a 10 dollar profit over the cost of production is 15 million a year pre-tax.
This China thing is going on right now so it’s not really feasible to make a change in trajectory right now, but it’s something to think about.
