A Question about L-Arginine

A Question about L-Arginine

I read somewhere that Protein kills L-Arginine so L-Arginine should be taken at least 3 hours before or after a meal.

Is this true?

On the L-Arginine bottle it says it’s best taken with food.

If someone could shed some light on this for me it’d be very appreciated.

L-Arginine is an amino acid, protein breaks down into amino acids depending on the quality of the protein it is likely to contain some L-Arginine, I cant see why this would be true. Taking it with food just makes it easier to absorb for the body. It is a rare Amino with good benefits a supplement in pure powder form should be the preferred choice.

Why do you use this Amino? Glutamine should be your first choice other than your basic whey Protein, it contains an extra nitrogen atom which can be used to make any other amino acid, it is the most abundant protein in your body, I hear that Glutamine makes up 47% of human muscle, very important if your trying to grow it, thought I’d share my experience.

It does not kill L-Arginine.what happens is that all protein is comprised of many amino acids and L-ARG is an amino acid.If taken together they will compete for absorbtion. This is why when you are trying to obtain the isolated benefit from a particular amino it’s a good rule of thumb to take it 2-3 hours before other aminos.
I think taking it with food ie. carbs helps reduce any gastrointestinal complications if one is susseptible.I doubt that this enhances absorbtion to any significant degree.
I hope that this helps :D

Ahh he might want to take this proven amino acid for it’s vasodilating properties and increased synthesis of nitric oxide or for it’s touted ability to increase Human Growth Hormone production. All in the name of PE!

That hits the nail on the head.

Mr F, Nitric oxide helps relax the blood vessels, I can see this as advantage if trying for girth, also for its role to help a male to achieve and maintain an erection, and if you have a low immunity or want to boost it, only if it is converted into ornithine which there is no guarantee can it possibly stimulate the production of growth hormone, Nitric Oxide is actually a free radical so if your anti oxidants are not up to scratch and your taking large amounts you could be doing more harm than good. Glutamine would be a wiser more PE er and BBer friendly amino, studies show that for up to two weeks after strenuous exercise, glutamine stores can be severely lowered. Want to speed up recovery the fastest you can, GLUTAMINE is the answer. And as mentioned Arginine can be made from glutamine.

The above is my obviously my opinion, Arginine can be taken without any problems should you follow the instructions, but don’t think it is the be all and end all wonder amino.

Thanks guys— I’ve been waking up at night to take my capsules so it’s good to know it’s not been for nothing (I should probably just make a point of not eating three hours before I sleep)

…I’m also taking them because they reputedly increase ejaculate volume.

Why do you act like there is a contest between the 2 amino acids? there are a million ways to supplement your diet, and people take different things for different reasons. There is plenty of info in the medical literature about arginine, vascular compliance, endothelial function, NO2 etc. Likewise, there are arguments for taking glutamine for muscle recovery etc, but there is no reason to argue why taking one is better than taking the other. They do different things.

Horny Bastard

Its coming from years of experience and research.

Your choice, you know mine.
