Eggs

Hey i didnt know where to start this thread so i started it here, hope its ok.

I dont belong to any bodybuiliding forum so im hoping someone could help me out here.

Are eggs, mainly the yolk, still thought to be unhealthy if eaten more than twice a week because of the cholesterol? or is that a myth? I heard they have alot of good cholesterol opposed to the bad kind.

Thanks

Eggs have pretty much gotten a bad rap as long as you are not going totally overboard. If you do a google search for eggs and heart disease you get a lot of good info: http://www.goog le.com/search?c … =UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

The primary goal of PE should be to make your penis as healthy as possible in both form and function. If you do that, increased size will follow.

Find a local farmers’ market and seek out a vendor selling “pastured” [rather than “free range”]— the Omega balance is favorable and the yolks should be a bright orange instead of the crappy pale yellow of Wal-Mart eggs.

You will pay up, but the quality of fats you will get are worth the cost— eggs shouldn’t cost $0.79 per dozen, you get what you pay for.

Egg yolk contains only the good kind of cholesterol.

This correct. A recent conference of nutritionists in the USA confirmed that egg yolks and whites are both healthy. I picked this up from an article by Nancy Clarke who is a highly respected sports nutritionist.

If you are thinking of getting into shape then it’s recommended that you only eat the egg whites

Eggs, huh!

I am reluctant to say this as I am unsure about it’s accuracy, perhaps someone here can verify the truth or otherwise. I believe that cholesterol is very similar in it’s chemical (molecular) structure as compared to tetosterone and it may therefore be a dietary precursor to the formation of testosterone in the body. Can anyone confirm (or deny) that with facts?

Another thing, the egg industry in many parts of the world has long tried to promote eggs as “Nature’s Vitamin Pill”. I have often wondered about this claim.

I recall a period of two months (from about ten years ago) when I had access to a plentiful supply of good quality eggs rather cheaply. I remember putting on a lot of weight, and my pants size went up two sizes!!! It took a total avoidance of eggs, and another two months of exercise, to regain my original pants size. Although I love egg, I rarely eat it now as I find it often causes me gastric upsets these days.

My apologies for the random nature of the above, but I have had these thoughts in my head for quite a while, and this thread seems like a very good place to get them sorted out!

Why Eggs Don’t Contribute Much Cholesterol To Diet

Nutrition researchers at Kansas State University have published the first evidence that the absorption of cholesterol is reduced by another compound in the egg, a lecithin.
The research by Sung I. Koo, Yonghzhi Jiang and Sang K. Noh has resulted in the issue of U.S. Patent No. 6,248,728, "Compositions and methods for lowering intestinal absorption and plasma levels of cholesterol." The patent was issued June 19 to the KSU Foundation.

………..

Many people believe that dietary cholesterol directly contributes to raising blood cholesterol. Because eggs provide about half the dietary cholesterol in a typical Western diet, the public has been advised to limit its egg consumption.

Under the experimental conditions using an animal model that closely mimics human physiology, Koo and his associates found that a particular egg phospholipid interferes with the absorption of egg cholesterol and markedly lowers its uptake by the intestine. When the phospholipid is saturated, its inhibitory effect is further enhanced.

The researchers controlled experimental conditions to specifically look at egg phospholipid and its effect on cholesterol absorption. Even though a good amount of cholesterol is consumed when an egg is eaten, much of the cholesterol becomes "unavailable for absorption" in the presence of the phospholipid, Koo said.

"This may be a reason why so many studies found no association between egg intake and blood cholesterol," he said. The phospholipid, or lecithin, found in egg markedly inhibits the cholesterol absorption. The inhibition is not 100 percent, he said. Some cholesterol is absorbed but the amount is significantly reduced in the presence of this phospholipid.

"Less absorption means less cholesterol introduced into the blood," Koo said. "We were able to determine experimentally that a substantial amount of the egg cholesterol is not going into the blood stream."

Koo says people with normal cholesterol levels and no family history of cardiovascular disease should not worry about eating one to two eggs a day. There’s more overall nutritional benefit than harm to be gained from eating "nutrient-dense" eggs — in moderation, he said.

Egg contains a higher quality protein than protein found in meat, milk or fish.

Furthermore, egg is a significant source of vitamins A and E, and B vitamins B-6, B-12 and folate, which are known to lower blood levels of homocysteine, an independent risk factor for heart disease.

Koo’s research has received support from the Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station and the USDA National Research Initiative Competitive Grants Program.

Koo is a professor of human nutrition at K-State; Jiang received a master’s degree in nutrition from K-State; and Noh is a postdoctoral researcher at K-State who is continuing research with Koo. - By Kay Garrett

mch, sounds like you may be allergic to eggs. Some people are and should avoid them.

Also, I think that people who are allergic to eggs, are generally allergic to the whites. The yolks have a ton of good stuff in them.

To know more about how we’ve been mislead about fat and especially saturated fat, read Gary Taubes’ “What if it’s all been a big fat lie?” article. That will open your eyes.

I follow some of the top body builder’s diet’s, the yellow has some good thing’s in it so they usually throw 2 whole eggs a day into there 20 egg whites.

That is what I was thinking, about what you said 2 yolks to 20 egg whites. I’m glad someone thinks the same way. I know yolks has some advantages but if you’re on a diet and consuming a lot of eggs, you could be contradicting your weight loss.

I’m starting the P90x routine today. The nutrition guide has me eating about 6 egg whites a day. I’m thinking about throwing in 1 or 2 yolks into that for the nutrients, maybe 1. So wish me luck!

Good luck man, if you pick up any cool tips from the P90x routine please don’t hesitate to share :) .

I definately will. This is going to be a tough 90 days. But I’m getting married in about 5 1/2 months so I want to look good. Maybe I will start a blog somewhere to keep track of my results week by week. Hopefully inspire others to take advantage of their life, like others did to me.

What kind of tips would you like? Nutrition tips, Excersize tips? I’ll be around.

Well I have been studying exercises and nutrition the last 3 years and body building so I know the basics. But I am always up for nutritional tips
