Grey Hair, Overnight.

OK, ladies & gents. I’ve had a rough month, and my hair is now shot with grey. Seeing as I am somewhat babyfaced, and still pulling birds 15 years younger than I am, this just won’t do.

Vanity, thy name is GlandMaster.

Anyone know of any nutritional/natural solution to this. I am not dyeing my hair. I’ve heard that there are certain supplements that can bring back the colour to one’s hair… anyone had experience with any of these?

Are there specific supplements you’ve heard about for this purpose? Why don’t you want to dye your hair? Women do it all the time, and there doesn’t seem to be any stigma attached to their doing so. Shouldn’t we lads be offered the same consideration? What about that Grecian Formula stuff? Apparently, it “restores” your natural color, so it’s not like regular hair dyes.

I wonder if melanin can be taken as a supplement, and whether this might help. It’s the loss of melanin that leads to greying.

Has anyone out there used Grecian Formula, or any other hair color products?

Okay, come on, who out there dyes his hair?

I also have a baby face and look much younger than I am. Fortunately, my hair (on my head) is only just starting to “grey” (actually, it’s going straight to white). It’s still barely noticeable. However, my chest hair is almost completely white! Weird. I’ve taken to trimming my chest hair on account of this. I wouldn’t mind grey hair so much, but it’s clear that I’m going to have very white hair. Gross. I may even dye my hair a nicer color of grey in future.

I’ll be giving my hair that special chemical touch when I begin to go gray.

Sorry, but your only option is to dye it. Why don’t you want to?

Ethnicity, man. Certain folks don’t respond well to most hair dyes, and I would rather not make things worse. P-G, there’s never only one option. Seriously, I’ve heard of people taking stuff which turned their hair back, I just can’t remember what it was…

My grandmother was completely white at age 45. I started to go white when I turned 30. I tried the Grecian formula for a while and it did work. However I’m a lazy guy so I just stopped. THen it looked even more apparent since it changed quickly back to white. Now almost 20 years later I’m almost completely white. The wife says I look distinguished - or did she say that I should be EXtinguished? Can’t remember!!

I started to get grey early and just the other day I saw an advertisement for melancor that is supposed to remove grey. Dont know if it works but I really thought about buying it.

So-called "Grecian formula" products work thus :

***

Grecian Formula is 98% clear liquid. The rest is a small amount of sulfur and 0.29 - 0.34% lead acetate. These chemicals work as follows:

The lead acetate both coats and is absorbed into the hair shaft.

The sulfur coats the hair shaft (a small amount of naturally occurring sulfur is present in the amino acids of the hair follicle).

The trick is that lead acetate reacts with sulfur (both inside and outside the hair) to produce a dark black pigment .

Therefore, your hair will get darker on both the inside and outside of the shaft. The color is permanent (until you hair either grows or falls out).

***

More on lead acetate . I’d stick with the traditional organic hair dyes, even though they act faster (not a gradual day-by-day change) and you therefore take a greater risk of screwing up your color.

Melancor is very likely a scam on the level of penis-enlargement pills. The internet is full of obscure start-ups taking advantage of men’s insecurities.

Most things that sound too good usually are and that’s why I have been hesitant to purchase it.

I remember back in the late 80’s reading an interview with Steve Martin where he mentions this topic. He had been taking some herbal sups. and they un-grayed his hair. He thought it was interesting that his premature gray/white had been caused by a vitamin deficiency of some type. He also stopped taking the stuff because the hair was his look and he didn’t want people thinking he was dying it.

:nodding: That's what I’m talkin’ about! Thanks iamru! Now just gotta find that stuff…

Maybe I’ll just call up Steve, that wild & crazy guy…

I’m sure you can find hundreds, probably thousands of retailers on the web claiming "herbal remedies" to restore natural hair color, but no such thing exists right now, unless your gray hair is the result of disease — e.g., pernicious anemia, which can be treated with vitamin B-12.

There is a leukaemia drug that looks promising for restoring hair color, but it is not currently an option. The only option is dyeing (or using a dye "alternative" such as lead acetate ["Grecian formula"]).

Sorry for being so dogmatic here, but I really get angry at all the hucksters online who make millions of dollars selling BS herbal remedies, whether for chronic diseases or for enlarging one’s penis or restoring one’s hair color. They’re as bad as the pyramid schemers!

Gland, is all your hair graying or just here and there? You said you had a ‘rough month’. I’m just wondering if maybe you’ve been stressing out a bit and getting a few gray hairs.

Ah well I started losing hair when I was 20.. I found my first grey one at the age of 25 I think (which was 2 years ago).
Must have been the wanking olympics I have been going through since my early youth or something ;)
But then maybe it’s just genetics.. A great granddad of mine started losing his hair very early, too.

All hail the genetics ;) (but no, the girls tend to crap up on me since I started losing hair.. must be the difference of youthful looks and slight hairloss..)

Dunno really..
But I don’t really care either.
