For the glutamine. I did no know that glutamine facilitated arginine until I read the glutamine print out. I knew both the amino acids reduced blood sugar by reading “Life Extensions” online thread on how to reduce blood sugar.
It appears that one way glutamine reduces elevated blood sugar is by decreasing a persons appetite for carbohydrates.
Note: candida albicans yeast destroys glutamine. Stress and exercise depletes glutamine.
Glutamine supplementation increases arginine in the kidneys
The source I got the glutamine information from is called. (Hyperhealth natural health & nutrition CD-ROM 2001 version)
3-5 grams of glutamine.
1-6 grams of arginine.
These are the supplemental dosages of these two amino acids:
Read this in May/07 issue of “Mens Health” “Beat high blood pressure” Arginne rich foods decrease blood pressure(I suppose by raising nitrous oxide). And lowers blood sugar. This is a paraphrase not a direct quote. Page 116, paragraph 3. How arginine does this I’m not sure, I’m going to get a print out for arginine today from the health food store.
I asume through diet that I get some 5-6 grams of glutamine, I take in 100-130 grams of lean protein per day and I use gltamine poweder between 4-7 grams per day.
I’m not sure the amount of arginine I’m getting probably 2100mg for sure from the four tablespoons of peanut butter I use in my recovery shakes.
Yes your correct about protein sources of glutamine. The average healthy diet supplies about 7 grams of glutamine per day. Protein encourages hypertrophy of muscles and in turn bigger muscles burn more calories. This is a no brainer.
Exercise is a component of the two amino acids ability to build muscle. However I speculate that the blood sugar reducing effect is independant of exercise.
It is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that if diabetics increase there protein intake and reduce there carbohydrate intake down to less than 200 grams that their blood sugar goes down. Further more if you eat the protein with the carbohydrate the protein slows the carbohydrates rate of increasing blood sugar.
I’m living proof this works.
