L-Glutimine Inquiry

I heard that just a few grams of L-Glutamine can enhance growth hormone. Repair damaged muscles and a whole bunch of other things. I’ve been taking 1-2 grams per day most days of the week.

Does anyone out in Thunderland take Glutamine, and if you do how and what does it do for you?

I took it for intestinal problems. Many studies indicate that for 3 hours after taking a small dose of glutamine your HGH levels can increase by up to 300%. I took it for about 4 months and my penis did not get bigger (if that was your hope).

It is widely used to treat intestinal problems because it is readily consumed by cells that are constantly dividing (like the cells in your intestines).

I’m using it on a more less regular basis, usually 2g combined with 50mg zinc before going to bed to improve night wood.

It’s not exactly working wonders, yet I can feel the ‘small difference’.

I also found out that my body adapts to the Glutamine intake, so from time to time I have to ‘decondition’.

Sorry it took so long to respond, My hair started growing back when after taking L glutimine for about a month. It also help me to muscle up after a long bout with anemia.

There hasn’t been studies that glutamine can raise your growth hormone by 300%. It is just something that a brand called “AST” made up so people will by their product. Glutamine is really useful in muscle recovery.

Can you be more specific about your hair growing back? Were you going bald?

It may have brought my hair in thicker when taken with ginseng which improves circulation. Glutamine, Helps with muscle recovery, Ginseng helps with circulation. The little tiny muscles in the hair shaft ()I forgot what they are called may of come out of an inert state due to glutamine/genseng therapy.

Glutamine is a weight-lifter’s wonder-amino

Yes it is.

I recently found out that glucosamine is a combination of glutamine and sugar. Glucosmine only works in high dosages to repair joints and ligaments and tendons. However glucosmine is expensive. Glutamine in it’s l-glutamine form is cheaper. I guess you would take your glutamine with a natural sugar like honey and will have similar afect as the more expensive glucosamine. Now if I can find out how they make chontroitin perhaps it can be done cheaper to.

You’ll eventually come to the conclusion that everything has precursors. Testosterone is (in several steps) made from cholesterol, but consuming massive amounts of cholesterol won’t raise your testosterone levels. If you have joint problems, the very best thing to take would be glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, and SAMe along with fish oil.

Your source on glucosamine is incorrect. Glucosamine is simply glucose with the C2 hydroxyl group replaced with an amine. No glutamine involved, although the body may still manufacture glucosamine using glutamine as an amine donor. I wouldn’t waste taking glutamine with honey, because glucose is available in sufficient quantities from food.

Glucosamine is composed of glutamine and a sugar molecule refer to supplementwatch.com under glucosamine, you may be right about the breakdown. Then supplementwatch.com may have thier facts incomplete I’m going to check it out again.

Well, the source you pointed out is incorrect. I just checked wikipedia, which backed me up. However, in your source’s defense, glutamine and fructose-6-phosphate are required for glucosamine synthesis in the body. You have to keep in mind that the dietary supplement industry is contaminated with hippie quack-meisters that falsify (often unknowingly) what they publish. Never believe anything you read on the internet unless you have found a few other sources that make the same statement and are diverse sources (ie, not all supplement company sites). On that note, wikipedia is not always correct, but I have found their chemical info to be pretty much consistent with reliable literature.

And your reliable source is other than wikipedia is?

What profit would supplementwatch.com make from stating that glucosamine is a derivetive of glutamine and fructose-6-phosphate, Glutamine is cheaper and somwhat smaller in size than glucosamine.

It’s not about profit always, just misinformation. How about ANY biochemistry textbook??
