Quick question for the board....

Arginine is a safe amino acid,

It’s an essential building block for protein.
Protein supplements have arginine and other amino acids occurring in naturally high amounts like 2g per serving.
Many foods are high in arginine.
It’s just a scientific name for something we eat every day.

Arginine, ornithine, glutamine, and lysine taken on an empty stomach at bedtime (approximately 3g each) help boost your growth hormone levels during the growth hormone peak that naturally occurs overnight. Growth hormone is known to keep you young. It increases muscle mass, decreases fat, thickens skin, increases virility… Why not boost you growth hormone by taking safe amino acids.
Doctors, bodybuilders and virility specialists recommend it.

So, arginine has more additional benefits than what has been discussed in this thread. Most guys reading this would benifit greatly from taking this safe amino acid.

My experience with L-Arginine:

I have an enlarged prostate that makes me very sensitive to any change in it.

I took L-Arginine ,0.5gm a day, for just a few days. The effects were a stronger and easier to maintain an erection. An increase in sperm fluid, which seemed to be prostate fluid as reported on this forum and supported by my experience.

It was very apparent that taking this amino acid caused some sort of an enlargement to prostate, perhaps minimal.
Logic would dictate it is due to an increase in the fluid production.
After a few days, stoped taking L-Arginine, and the symptom vanished.

Perhaps it’s safe to take it for a day, a week, a month ? But who knows what the effects are after months or a year. Perhaps they would show up years later. My concern is that in the long run this would cause an increased rate of cell production in the prostate.

This is mainly directed at people at risk for enlarged prostate due to their age.

I strongly recommend anyone in such a risk group not to take
L-Arginine.

I am sorry to report this, but I think there may be something to the L-arginine prompting a herpes outbreak.

I had never noted an outbreak “down there” of any kind in my 35+ years and had no reason to think I had herpes. However, I tried taking L-arginine (don’t remember the dosage) and all of a sudden I had this bad rash, etc. all around my pubes. So, I did some research and found out this idea that L-arginine could cause a breakout. The L-arginine was the only thing I changed about my diet when all this happened. I stopped the L-arginine and after a week or so the break-out went away slowly. I have not seen another break-out since (a year).

Good luck if you try it, but it may lead you to think you have Herpes. I now think I do, and that was a big surprise to me.

Did you get any little sores or blisters or was it just a rash?

No blisters, but the rash did develop little “white heads” before drying up and going away. I used lots of neosporan on the area and it seemed to speed healing.

Sounds more like it may be Folliculitis (sp) (bacterial infection of the hair follicles) perhaps brought on as a response to a compromised immune system. It’s symptoms include itching, a rash and small whiteheads/pimples in the hair follicles. Using an anti-bacterial wash like Hibitane usually takes care of it. Your rash could also be an allergic reaction to the suppliment you took and/or the combination of the suppliment together with something else.

Have you had genital herpes previously? Herpes is a virus which you are very, very unlikely to contract from taking any oral supplement or medication. A typical genital herpes outbreak usually presents first as an itchy or tingly spot which develops into a blister then into a weeping sore. At this stage the virus becomes highly infectious. If left untreated the lesion can be persistant. It’s a bit like having a “cold-sore” (which is another variant of the herpes virus) on your penis. Genital herpes is contracted by sexual contact with a partner who currently has a genital herpes lesion so it is very important not to engage in sexual contact with anyone while you have a genital herpes lesion. A compromised immune system can bring on a herpes outbreak.

Is is possible to get genital herpes from a partner who has a cold sore on their mouth? My wife always avoids sex when she has a cold sore on her mouth. She says that the viruses are the same. Neither one of us has ever had genital herpes.

You wife is correct - herpes which presents on the mouth can be spread to the genitals through oral sex.

There are two types of the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). The virus that presents as herpes on the mouth is HSV-1 and the genital herpes virus is HSV-2. It is possible to have an HSV-1 infection on your genitals contracted through oral sex however HSV-2 infections appear to be confined to the genital area alone.

I take a combo of l-arginine and l-ornithine free form aminos
I was told the l-ornithine helps to get rid of any bad side effects from the l-arginine. What do you think you seem to have a pretty good handle on this stuff.

L-ornithine actually metabolises to L-arginine in the body so if you get the L-arginine side effects L-ornithine probably won’t change that.
