Razor bumps. If you have defeated them, please help.

Razor bumps. If you have defeated them, please help.

Hey guys. I’m 20 now. Around the age of 18, being the dumbass that I am, I decided to shave my now growing beard with a razor instead of a trimmer. Felt the smooth skin afterwards and needless to say, it felt good. But, problems quickly arose 2 to 3 days after doing that. My chin started bumping uncontrollably. Like endless pimples. At first, I wasn’t worried because I thought that like pimples, they would die down and go away but they haven’t. They have receded a bit, yes, but they are still prominent enough on my face that I don’t like them. I’ve included pics of both sides of my chin to illustrate my point. But maybe if I would have shaved my week old chin hair, you guys would be able to see them more clearly. Anyway, anyone who has any tips for helping me permentely get rid of these, please tell me. Right now, I just started experimenting with putting pure (green) aloe vera on it and we’ll see in a week if any progress occurs.

The only power a woman has over you is that which you give her.

They go away so don’t worry. Actually, you should probably go to wal-mart and purchase that new after shave lotion by nivea. I had a small bottle of it, I thought it worked pretty good.

Just wondering if this might be it, but if you have especially curly hair then ingrowing hair can be a problem if you shave especially closely.

Google came up with this:

I get spots after I shave, but they really are spots not pimples - prehaps I dont notice them till I shave, not sure.
Handy tip on that link it says not pull yer skin when shaving, which I always do. :homer:

Try hazel witch too

Yea. But since that one incident, I have NEVER used razors to shave my chin. Always a trimmer and that does not inflame it like a razor does. But it doens’t heal the bumps either. And therein lies the problem.

I have a semi-similair problem on my neck. What the problem is called pseudofolliculitis barbae and is extremely common with people with curly hair. men of color as well as super curly haired whites suffer from it.

I bought a product that was expensive for it called Tend skin. Take a look here: Ingrown Hair Solution | Helps Reduce Razor Bumps

I was just going to have my black hair lasered off my neck and throat and never have to worry about this shit again.

I know Lewd Ferrigno personally.

Once its ingrowing, I think it stays that way till its fixed. If thats what it is.

Vin Diesel has it on his neck bad in that DEA cop movie that he filmed years back and just poped up on cable a while back. Somehow, the tendskin works similair to aspirin. If I recall correctly a guy went to a dentist with also having this problem and when he got some type of similair med, his problem declined in strength.

Expensive shit this product, like 50 bucks for my bottle. Smells somewhat like I washed in Everclear though.

Never, ever shave with a razor.

I got my shit lasered off. Its working great, got like three more treatments and I’m hair free.

There is a product intended for sex toy cleaning that also works excellently to prevent razor bumps. Users find it very effective after shaving the bikini line and whatever they like to shave according to the raving reviews of the product. The stuff is called “Invit Hygiene”:

I have not tested it myself for shaving purposes but you are just supposed to shave normally, then apply this gel and let it dry. The ingredients are Isopropanol ~50%, some Ethyl alcohol, Glycerin, and Carbomer which I suppose is a gel agent. I found a hand disinfectant gel with the same ingredients in a hardware store at a fraction of the price. I told my wife to see if it helps but haven’t heard anything yet.

You got your beard gone forever in theory? I wanted to get a stylish trim to only come in and burn everything else off my face. How much it cost?

Aveeno makes a special shaving cream to help with razor bumps and sensitive skin. I use it and like the results.

I got the same problem when shaving my head or my neck.
I read about that problem on a head shaver site, they say that black people tend to have more problems.

I always get razorbumps when I’ve stopped using razors for a long time.

BBS,

I am also interested in this. Until recently, laser wasn’t that effective on darker skin tones. Do you know what kind of laser they are using? My guess is the Nd:YAG. How long in between treatments?
