Depression, Thyroid, Wilson's Temperature Syndrome

Hello all and Happy New Year

I am here because on this day last year, I began experiencing a number of strange symptoms, and still have not gotten it figured out. I have been in and out of several doctors, my PCP, an endo, and a GI. The endo and GI have recommended antidepressants, but before I go that route there are a few things I want to look into.

My symptoms are:

- NO sex drive (erections are OK but not great, I just feel uninterested in sex completely)
- Almost no appetite
- Very slow digestion
- Bloating after meals, meals feel “stuck” in the stomach region
- Some Constipation
- Acid reflux after big meals
- Constant brain fog
- Inability to concentrate
- Consistent weight gain (went from about 180 to 225 this year) even though I exercise and work landscaping
- Loss of interest in everyday things
- Space out for long periods at the computer
- Some trouble sleeping
- Always tired and sluggish
- Completely drained after physical activity
- Low body temperature usually between 95.5-97.5, with only a few infrequent readings of 98.6+

My first theory was that it was a thyroid problem. A sluggish thyroid can lead to all these symptoms. Plus, I have a family history of hypothyroidism.

However, I did several blood tests, including TSH, Free and Serum Testosterone, T4, T3, Ferretin, and some others. All of these came back normal, except the testosterone was a bit low during one test. Saw the endocrinologist for this, tested again, and the level was fine. No supplementation was given.

In august I went on Nexium for about a month, and it didn’t do anything. PCP referred me to the GI, who did a endoscopy and said my stomach looked to be pumping “slow.” So, we did the barium-based gastric emptying study. The study went “normal” with no problems.

In early December, I met again with the GI and he did not have a solution for me. He recommended an anti-depressant. I saw an endocrinologist and he recommended the same thing.

But, when I checked out some forums, there are a lot of people who get the whole antidepressant recommendation from a doctor, only to find that it just masks their true underlying problems. This is what I DON’T want to happen. Plus, most antidepressants carry sexual side effects which would hurt my cause even more.

I would also like to mention that I get exercise about 3 times a week for about an hour (hockey) and spring-fall I work landscaping. I live a happy, stress-free life and am in a 5+ year SOLID relationship. This makes me doubt it’s depression even more.

Also, there is a medical condition out there called Wilson’s Temperature syndrome (first site when searching it on google will bring up the official page) which shows that there have been many patients with hypothyroid symptoms AND low body temperature but have normal lab results. This sounds exactly like me. These patients, even though their T3 looks normal, respond POSITIVELY to T3 supplementation, most seeing that their symptoms go away with this treatment.

What I really need to know is if anyone has had experience with Wilson’s syndrome, underactive thyroid, depression, or anything else you think it could be. I have some more appointments coming up, and I am really trying to get this figured out. One year is too long. It can’t go on any longer.

Thanks in advance

I would also like to mention that every 2 months (roughly), I get a period of 2-5 days where I feel perfectly normal. Sex drive, digestion, concentration, and mood all feel great. But slowly it goes away again.

To me it definitely sounds like thyroid dysfunction. Many of the symptoms you described can be caused by hypo/hyperthyroidism. It can account for abnormalities in body temperature too, as you said.

I guess if you don’t have any luck with that, see a neurologist, sometimes they can link bizarre symptoms together that are actually related by the para/sympathetic nervous system.

Goodluck.

It could be you have an allergy to something you are consuming.

Just an example. I have an allergy to Soya. Unfortunately Soya is used in just about everything you buy in the food line these days. - Vegetable oil is one.

So it might be worthwhile to cut out various food/drinks etc. - one at a time and see if there is any change in your situation.

Hope that helps.

You know with Wilson’s, you in theory would most likely hit a famine surviving ethnic group? Native American, any Eastern/Central European (usually Russian), any British Isle (usually Irish) in you? Most normal white devil medicine man/doctors don’t care for fringy things, especially camps that follow the Barnes methodology of basal body temperature as the more “accurate” gauge of thyroid function. I assume no testing of the reverse t3 tests which WTS calls a must? Any cortisol readings particularly by blood instead of piss in a jar over a day?

Thanks for the responses, guys.

Tomorrow, I am going in for the “piss in jar” adrenal test.. And for a blood test of thyroid antibodies.

And yes, I am mostly Irish, and I believe part Russian.

Twatteaser: do you have experience in the medical field? Or with Wilson’s yourself? You seem to know a lot about the topic, and I have seen you comment on other medical topics. What would you recommend I do?

You are not going to find any "normal" Joe Bow doctor who believes or wants to believe in any "fringier" theories that piss on such conventional medicine. REad the faq and introduction and "see" if it is you. We will take this in baby steps.

You can PHYSICALLY purchase the two WTS books like I did, so I can read on my downtime. If not they are on the site for free in the fucking most inconvenient eye numbing shitty format.

I definitely think these symptoms are me. I can’t find anything that says the specific “range” that is normal for body temperature. I know that 98.6 is usually the standard normal temperature, but how low is too low? Throughout the day, mine comes up usually between 96-97.5, with some 95 readings and an occasional 98+ reading.

Thanks again for the reply.

Just about all of your symptoms are normal for the typical person. Change your diet. And you could try not ejaculating for long periods, once a week. When my body gets out of whack the surge of testosterone from not releasing really puts me back on track.

My imbalances also even out around full moons, you notice the same?

I used to wake up as low as mid 93 degrees and could touch people with my hands and feel like ice. “Normally” accepted medical theory of being low means nothing. Yet go over 98.6 and oh my God go to an ER. If one looks at it from the perspective of basic biology in a high school text, temperature is all about enzyme activity. Bake a cake below its threshold and you have no wonder it is “off”. Yet conventional medical thought ignores it.

I assume DE means the great state of Delaware instead of the abbreviation for Germany in your location? If it is Delaware, there are only two medical people who “believe” in the possibility of it, anywhere near you.

I assume you have insurance, hopefully with a good amount for testing? I have Unlimited testing (blood work) for no charge as long as a doctor writes it for me.

Yes, I have insurance and have had countless blood tests done under the plan. DE stands for Delaware, but I am sometimes in New Jersey, where I found 2 doctors in my travel radius.

Did you go to one of the doctors listed as a Wilson’s Syndrome doctor? If so, could you explain your experience from start to finish? I have been waiting a long time to hear another patient’s story directly.

And yes, I have had a couple of days where I woke up in the 94 range. I don’t really feel cold though.

Thanks

Bluray: My “good” days come as a group, about 2 months apart roughly. There is no pattern regarding the moon.

T do you take and of the WTS or WT3 protocol or supps?
