Evolution theory of the big penis mating attraction to women

I am mostly in agreement with supersizeit regarding the effects of secondary physical traits in a man upon women. As with everything in life, we operate on myth, construction, and metaphors. That is, evolution’s interplay between the construction and what became “hard wiring” is no different, both in terms of what we may speculate was “real” (i.e. that which offered a true biological advantage) and what became real simply because of, as supersizeit suggested, critical mass took over from point of environmental disposition.

My point is, within this hyperreality, there are things we can at least identify as signifiers, and I think one of those is larger penises, which, for whatever reason—perception, biological, or both—offer a reproductive advantage for a male. Moreover, there are advantages stemming from being self-reflective about that “big penis advantage,” i.e. the spillover and multiplier effect of having a larger penis. I believe this is akin to how the other head, if you know what I mean (intelligence), can lead to limitless other possibilities as well. What is interesting, in my opinion, is to consider that intelligence is recognized as a “abnormality” beyond a certain level as well, but nevertheless, socially it tends to be overwhelmingly coveted and prized (brings new meaning to phrase big head little head—smiling).

As a final thought, history is full of cultural examples of men with larger penises being glorified by a community. For example, in the ruins of Pompeii, frescos abound depicting men with incredibly larger phalluses symbolizing wealth and security. And, this leads me back to my social construction idea: larger penises are preferred and ought to be recognized as such, if for no other reason level that the social seems to persist. And, because the social level interplays with the individual level, all of us are necessarily caught up with idea of larger penis as an important concern.

Does this mean that larger penises will always be preferred? I’m not sure and I don’t think anyone can say for sure. But until the point at which socially we no longer care as much, no male can ignore this penis size debate issue.

I agree this holds true if we are talking strictly about getting pregnant and thus the propagation of the human species but what if the woman’s desire is motivated by some mix of pleasure and survival instinct? How will that play out in the evolutionary process?
Afterall we are supposedly the only species of animal on earth that mates for the sheer pleasure of it. I think that dolphins may also but I am not sure about that. We are not necessarily talking about the factors that promote survival of the species even though they cannot be discounted but it could be a complex mix which also includes factors relating to sexuality and pleasure.

Touche’ a hypothesis is by definition, well, hypothetical. I was simply offering a counterpoint to it. I was testing its logic based on the premise you seemed to use to contrive it. That is all.

EF, you have some good points there that will need further analysis to see if they stand to reason. The biggest negative of such a theory, however, remains the fact that women generally do not see a mates penis size until after they have determined in some other way their eligability as a mate.

Addendum

You both may be onto something (EF and SSI). There may be a psychological and not biological advatage which has been engrained in us by society. I remember reading a study which basically concluded that larger men had on average more sexual partners than the less endowed. This was mosre than likely due to their confidence in themselves which somehow stemmed psychologically from their penis size. If this study is indeed correct, then these men had more mating oppurtunities than the others. All other factors being equal, this would then translate into a biological advantage and a long term evolutionary trend towrds a larger phallus.

Beo, point well taken. I was not intending to suggest that larger penises occupy such a central role in mating, and this absent point was an oversight on my part. Thank you. In fact, I would argue that intelligence would go much farther in terms of mating attractiveness.

Nevertheless, the question is one of what are the pool of desireable traits, as opposed to what is the most desireable trait. In this regard, larger penises are certainly to be reckoned. Witness Exhibit 1 (i.e. the link below), and note women’s ambivalence when it comes to choosing men who have small penises but are financially secure over men who have larger penises but less money.

Hmmmmm Interesting, that would seem to support what I said in post #17.

As an addendum to my point above about pool of desireable traits, I am currently dating a woman who had been dating a man who was very well endowed but ended up deselecting him, in a sense, opting to marry a man with a small penis but who was very financially secure (and by implication, was more intelligent as well). However, two years into the marriage, she ended up wanting to return to the relationship with the man with the larger penis, though in all fairness, not strictly because she had married a man with a small penis. Nonetheless, the man with a smaller penis appeared less interested or psychologically capable in pleasing her sexually, for reasons I speculate and understand her to say that he was not prone to being this way due in part to his self-identification as having a small penis.

In any event, she is no longer with either man (hence, she and I are dating), and I understand she finds me desireable, because I seem to demonstrate a “marriage” between the two, among other things. That is, I exhibit both potential for strong sexuality and financial security. Why potential? Well, this is an Internet dating thing that has been going on for the last ten months, and I haven’t actually met her yet, though she knows quite a bit about me if you get my drift. In any event, I am at sixs and nines trying to do all I can to have her construction of overall desireability match what one day will be her experience of me. In essence, she wants it all, which I extrapolate is what most women prefer (not surprisingly).

Ive been doing the online dating thing successfully for a while now and I love it!
I suspect that most woman want the best balance of all the desirable traits in a man but many are intelligent enough to realize that they wont easily find someone that possess all of them and that includes a bigger penis but they can find a good mix of the other attributes and qualities or on the other hand— a bigger penis with a few shortcomings in other areas (Interpersonal and communication skills, money,looks,etc.) or any combination there of. Money is a big one but it varies with how much gold digging is in her blood or family values that are passed on to her. She must also factor in how desirable she is on the open market to the kind of man she wants and see what she can fetch when she stands on the old auction block. Men look for the non-physical attributes too—-intelligence and personality— and are not as physically oriented as most women would believe. A wise man knows that looking good works only for a while but if the other areas are lacking then its basically a ticking time bomb. Men are still generally seen as the provider even though modern times and womens lib is closing the gap in this area.

There’s a guy sitting down and he’s got a gigantic penis. Yet he is depressed concerning his penis size (I only glanced at that page so I’m actually not real sure why he’s sitting there like that. It’s just the first impression that came to mind at that time). I thought it was showing no matter how big men are we always want more and I thought how true. I may go back and look at that page again and see if I need to reassess my impression on that.

That “mrpoll” link is further evidence that women believe men’s lies about their enormous cocks. About half of the respondents claim to have experienced 8.5+” cocks, while a fifth claim to have had 10+”. Wow. I think I’ll claim 10” if a girl ever asks, see if I can get away with it.

I remember watching a show on Discovery about the female orgasm. They had a fiber optic camera up there and it showed the cervix (I think) pumping away as the woman experienced the orgasm. The purpose of this, the scientists sadi was to suck in as much sperm as possible, increasing the chance of pregnancy and getting a better selection of sperm to fertilize the egg.

Perhaps that a bigger penis is more likely to give a woman an orgasm is a nother evolutionary reason for the appeal of a huge rod.
