1. She is, and it’s something I’ve had a relatively long time to think about (we talked about it the first week that we started dating if I recall). Also, it was a mutual decision. An unplanned pregnancy is just isn’t something we want to risk since we’re not financially stable and don’t really want kids in the first place.

I have a buddy who is 26 and isn’t in the best position to have kids at the moment either, although he definitely wants them. He says that sometimes he goes bareback with his fiance (who is on birth control, I think) anyway and says that if she was to get pregnant, it would just mean that the child bearing starts early and they’ll find a way to make it work. That’s not me.

2. It’s not their fault. I was presented with the facts and told them in no uncertain terms that I understood the pros and cons and wanted it done. As far as I know, any any decent urologist would have performed it as well given the same situation and informed consent.

3. I personally know of many successful adoptions (friends of mine or the family) from both the parents and the children. We both agreed that we would adopt if we change our minds. I can sleep at night knowing that.

A guy I work with was 26 when he got a vasectomy, but he had 2 kids already.

I suppose they discourage females more from sterilization, as vasectomy is potentially reversible. Did they make you wait a month to think about it? That is protocol where I live.

I had to schedule it a month in advance, with the option to cancel at any time with no financial consequences. That’s partly because they only do them once a month, so the next date has probably already filled up with the guys who didn’t get in last month.

Also, reversal is very expensive and has a high rate of failure. They warn you in advance that you shouldn’t go under the knife if you’re counting on a reversal as a safety net. I think that having a woman’s tubes untied has a higher rate of success, although it is more invasive and has it’s own set of complications. Again, the lady would have gotten her works out given the chance, but we couldn’t afford it, and since we both want the same thing a vasectomy has a much lower risk of complications and a shorter recovery, why ask her to go through that?

I dropped off my sperm sample today. I should hear back in a few days. It’s been an interesting 3 months. We’ve had sex, but I still haven’t come inside her yet just in case.

A tip for the future: don’t have sex twice in 12 hours (and not keep the semen) before you’re supposed to submit a sample for sperm analysis. I could barely come up with anything even after giving it another 3-4 hours. But the women was up for sex, and I was not thinking ahead 0:) . Anyway, they didn’t have enough to get a conclusive result, and I had to resubmit. The good news is that I got not one but two handjobs back to back to procure the sample for test number 2.

In case anyone is actually following this…PP called to tell me that my sperm count came back as….Zero. Not surprising considering that I had ejaculated over twenty times by the end of the first month. The only way that I should have had any sperm left was if the procedure had failed completely. And so the saga ends.

No more rubbers for me! (Unless anal sex is involved with the intent of sticking it in her pussy immediately afterward, which I’m happy to say is in the realm of possibility).

Congrats, BN. You can relax now.
