L-Arginine (again)

L-Arginine (again)

Hopefully not a dead horse, but I was reading this, from https://www.arg … ineresearch.com

Do not rush out and buy plain L-arginine, because L-arginine without the correct synergists and co-factors or an improperly prepared L-arginine formula can cause reactivation of the herpes virus as well as the stimulation of peroxynitrate. Formulas containing free forms of both L-arginine and Lysine are to be avoided.

And it got me wondering, if I want to take L-Arginine, then should I be looking for some sort of mixture, and not just a capsule containing L-Arginine itself? Is what I have (250mg L-Arginine, on it´s own) not what I need?

Another thing, does anyone in the UK know where we can get L-Arginine in large doses, like in a powder perhaps? I can´t afford to take several 250mg capsules every day.

I take L-Arginine now. I bought the GNC brand, but I’ve also used other brands in the past. I think much of the Arginine available is similar in compound to one another. If you have herpes, then I would consult a licensed physician to determine if you should avoid this altogether. Otherwise, I think any brand will suffice. Just an opinion…

In my understanding, it is not the issue of plain or augmented L-a which is important regarding a herpes outbreak, rather it is the amount taken. And this “outbreak” amount is highly variable with the individual.

I would bet dollars to donuts that a very large number of us carry the herpes virus, even though we have never had an outbreak severe enough to get our attention.

You can only experiment and see. There are guys who take 20 grams of this a day. I function well on 3 grams and never had a herpes problem. I might do well on 20 grams, also. But why take more than I, specifically, need for the effect I’m looking for? More of anything is not always better.

Well I´m currently taking 2G before bed. When I use up these capsules I´ll probably switch to a relatively cheap L-Arginine and L-Orthinine powder.

Do you think there are benefits to be had from L-Orthinine?

Since I am only 18, and still growing, should I be taking L-Arginine and/or L-Orthinine?

No!

Eat sensibly, nutritionally.

Exercise a lot.

Save the supplements for a somewhat later time in your life when you have to gird you loins against body breakdown. And don’t tell me you have to start now because you haven’t even hit your peak yet.

I swear, you kids make me nuts. You have it all and you think you need more? Give me a break. :-)

I agree with you Avocet. I have recently learned the hard way that
overdoing supplements, vitamins, minerals and herbs can really
screw things up (for example too much B-6 can be toxic to your
nerves). I now have to abstain from all such things for 2 months
in hopes to get back to normal. It might be that I didn’t cycle
properly, but the fact is if you eat right and exercise plenty, you
don’t need to add all the pricy supplements….which are making
other people richer, but not necessarily what a healthy person
needs on a daily basis.

Oh, the money I’ve wasted.
