I don’t believe anyone definitively knows the answer on this one.
What I think is import is the essential concept behind ADS that both of you are getting at: the ADS is not meant to be a high tension stretch. Rather it is meant to keep the organ in a extended state during the recovery period after more intense (and short term) exercises.
As with any of this stuff, there will be variation as to how different anatomies respond, and what people are comfortable with.
What is true is that the overzealous who crank up the tension to a high degree in order to get faster gains are doing themselves a disservice; they are likely retarding their growth potential.
And nobody wants to be retarded.
