Amount of jelqs per session and avoiding injury

I had a problem a couple of weeks back. I’d been jelqing for near on 2 weeks and had definitely noticed a difference in thickness, length, strength of erections and ejaculations already.Then, somehow I injured myself pretty nastily! I never got round to putting pics up about it but basically half of one side of my cock was black with bruising! It took a week to go away.that was a week ago.
Problem now is there’s a new (very, very hot) girl on the scene and (I hope) sex with her in the next week is a distinct possibility. I’m really reluctant to restart my routine in case I bruise myself again!
Has anyone else injured themselves like this before? If so, how did you do it (I just looked down and saw that it was suddenly black - no idea what I did wrong!)? Any tips for avoiding this happening again?
Also, 2 questions about jelqing itself: How many jelqs do you do in one session? What is a good number? 10 minutes of jelqing can vary greatly in actual amount of jelqs due to erection levels going up and down, so 10 minutes of solid jelqing is had to keep track of. Figure an amount of strokes would be easier to keep track of.
And how hard should your grip be?? Exactly how much pressure should I be applying to each stroke?
