Hey collwatt,
Welcome to Thunders!
I’m not sure what a horse clamp is. Cable clamp, sure. As a beginner though, all you really need is your hands. All any of us really need are our hands, tools can make the process easier, more effective, etc. Some tools should be used more carefully than others. Hands are enough, though. It’s usually best to not go spending a bunch of money on stuff, there’s no need. If you find out later that it’s not for you or you can’t stay consistent enough for gains to be realized, then you’ve wasted your money when all you needed were your hands.
Give these a thorough read Important Newbie Threads/Info. The exercises and techniques in the newbie routine has a place in every PE endeavor, regardless of experience level. In the end, do what you can to get the results you want, safely. Being consistent is the real key.
If you have any more questions that can’t be answered in a quick search, feel free to ask in this thread. In 20 some odd years, there’s allot of information available here. Most things have been asked and answered before.
If you’re gonna make it a serious go, consider a progress thread. It’s a good way to keep track of things and purvey information along the way.
-Stay safe
Edit: I think now you may have meant ‘hose clamp’ not ‘horse clamp’ sorry. A hose clamp isn’t necessary, a cable clamp does the same job and more safely because of how easily and quickly it can be removed if need be or in emergency. I wouldn’t suggest a hose clamp to anybody, simply because of how difficult and time consuming it can be to remove. Also, if for whatever reason, the threads strip and you can’t remove it, it will have to be cut. Think about that. A plastic cable clamp if it ever got stuck could just be broken off.
