Been measuring wrong whole time?

Hi I think I been measuring incorrectly because I been using tape measure. With tape measure I’m 7.5NBPEL and 7 3/4 BPEL(almost 8 inches) with a ruler I’m only 7.5 BPEL and a little over 7NBPEL. Why is there such a difference is it because of the ruler?

My rulers do not have zeros on the left side so I feel I’m losing length.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

No I really don’t have any curves. It’s just straight forward.

The reason a Bone-Pressed erect measurement is more accurate than measurement with a tape is that the end of the ruler is always in the same place. The placement of the end of a tape is much more random.

For the measure tape I removed the metal bit at the end for accuracy and I got a slightly different measurement. As for the ruler I bought a engineering ruler that doesn’t have the gap before the starting zero and my numbers came back a little under 8 BPEL which is an increase. So removing the starting gaps on both the tape and ruler seems to give me a better reading. Comments appreciated.

Whichever tool gives you a more consistent measurement every time you use it is the better one for tracking your PE Progress :)

Because tapes follow more than one dimension, hard rulers measure your actual length. I had this same problem too. My tape measure readings were always higher: best to use a wooden ruler if you want to track progress.

Use a ruler, it’s more accurate; unless you have severe curvature. This is common advice here.

I used to use a tape, then when I switched to a ruler I lost major length. The tape was lying to me. Now I only use a ruler.
