Hey, I have no experience with this product, but just happened to have read this thread recently while looking for an alternative to shaving:
Thioglycolic Acid for Discoloration Treatment
It looked like zarathustra was seeing some promising results treating his discoloration using a shaving powder called "Magic Shaving Powder." Unfortunately, it appears he lost interest in the experiment fairly quickly, but he claimed to have seen definite improvement. Best part is that it doesn’t involve giving yourself a chemical burn so severe it peels several layers of skin off your unit, so it’s got to be worth a try before going that route.
It looks like he used the Platinum powder version of it which has some skin conditioners in it. It appears to be kind of a pain in the ass to mix and also not readily available in stores anymore as far as I can tell (but it is on Amazon). There is a ready-made cream available now that also has the Thioglycolic Acid he suspected was the helpful ingredient. I have no idea if the cream has the same level of the acid as the powder he was using. The best part is, the cream is sold at Walgreens:

I think if it were me, I’d try the regular strength first. Just pay attention to the directions, because if you leave it on too long, you’re going to be doing an unintentional chemical peel after all!
