Don't Forget To Sun The Boys!

12

I haven’t used sunscreen in so long. When I did I believe that it was zinc sheer cream, yes. I prefer NOT to use it unless there is a need.

I know that many do use sunscreen.. So “pick your poison” lol. Over exposure vs. Varying levels [brands] of toxic sunscreen.
Cell mutation/ and or skin cancer is never a fun thing. So. I stay out of the sun, for any extended period of time, for the most part, AFTER peak hours.

However - if you are interested in the benefits of sunlight or exposure to UV light.(some intellectual studies) - read ‘Light: Medicine Of the Future’ by Jacob Liberman, O.D., Ph. D

I like the topic here. I prefer following evidenced-based-proof, though.

Exposure to UV light like sunbathing in solarium?

SolomonKane1349,

I like evidence based studies as well. For example 1/4 million year longitudinal study where homo sapiens mostly lived outside and mostly didn’t have sun screen or clothes.

Cancer rates started increasing in the late 1800s to their now chronic rate. Some people have linked this with consumption of industrial seed oils but this is correlation only.

There’s a lot of money in cancer (not curing it, dealing with it’s ramifications). It’s very hard to find decent research that isn’t tainted by that and isn’t epidemiological. Epidemiological evidence is fraught with confounding factors and can’t prove causation. So you’ll often find things like “increased UV exposure is associated with increased melanomas”. For example this meta analysis Occupational ultraviolet light exposure increases the risk for the development of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis which finds that people who work in the sun are at greater risk of cancer. That’s great but what else differs between the occupational exposure group and those who work indoors. It’s likely, for instance, that those working in the sun are of a lower economic status than those not and that their food intake would tend towards the cheaper end of the spectrum. It’s definite that in a world where people are warned a lot about skin cancer that you’d see a healthy user bias in those avoiding the sun. There’s a lot of junk science out there.

Thanks for the book recommendation.
