I thought I read somewhere that filling the tube to the end is difficult and that once you get close to the end you need to go to a longer tube. Can anyone confirm that?
I can pack the tube girth wise but can’t get closer than 1/2 inch to the end.

What tube are we talking about?
If you pack more than 3/4 of the way up your shaft, it is time to get a wider cylinder.

3.50 to 4.50* —> 1.50
4.75 to 5.25* —> 1.75
5.50 to 6.00* —> 2.00
6.25 to 6.75* —> 2.25
7.00 to 7.50* —> 2.50
7.75 to 8.25* —> 2.75
1/2” is ok unless you are doing length work, in which case, you may as well get a longer cylinder as long as you are replacing the cylinder anyway.
