Health question

I had a health question for the health section, but since I’m new I can’t post there yet. But I’m concerned so forgive me for posting here. Recently I’ve discovered a green goo substance collecting behind my tonsils. Along with that every now and then I get these white smelling stones. Any one have a clue what’s wrong? Possibly an infection?

It must be because you are squeezing too hard as you jelq…Or maybe you are asking on the wrong website.

Well I was just giving it a shot because it seems we have a wide variety of occupational jobs on here. Thought I might get a doc. :)

Because, of course, typing out a message on your computer to a doctor is just as good as going to his office, having a throat swab taken and sent to a laboratory, and having antibiotics prescribed, if necessary.

If you are hacking up green stuff, this is a sign of infection . If it does not clear up in a couple of days, go see a doctor. With the advances made in the medical profession over the last hundred years or so, you no longer have to have the infection fester in your throat, spread to your other mucous membranes, and die a slow, tortured death, as you fight for your last breath.

Unless of course you want to. You do have the right to refuse medical treatment : this is America, you know!

Stones? You got kidneys in your throat? Damn thats harsh man. How fast can you run to the doctor?

Go to the doctor immediately.

Infected tonsils do create a gummy, discolored ooze and white spots as well which, maybe, he is identifying as “stones.”

If your tonsils are infected, you will have other symptoms soon, or now. Sore throat, fever. Don’t mess with it. Go to your doctor.

There is a procedure called laser tonsillotomy, or laser tonsillectomy. This technique can be performed under local anaesthetic, using the scanned carbon dioxide laser, which vapourises and removes the surface of the tonsils. In this way, the edges of the crypts and crevices which collect the debris, are flattened out, so that they can no longer trap material. Therefore stones, which are almost like pearls forming from a grain of sand, cannot form.

I used to get these every other day when I was a kid. They are called “crypts.” I found a great description but the credit of this description is not indicated:

A tonsillolith (or tonsil stone) is a ball-like accumulation of food particles, bacteria, leukocytes, Dead white cells, and dried mucus in the folds of tonsils. These folds are referred to as crypts. The balls of bacteria and their waste products are colored white or yellow, are often described as resembling cottage cheese or cauliflower, and have a very foul odor, especially when dislodged and broken. Tonsilloliths may contribute to halitosis and sore throats. Prevention methods include gargling with salt water or a non-alcohol, non-sugar based mouth wash. A cotton swab dipped in hydrogen peroxide applied directly on the tonsil stones will dislodge them. The use of a water pick to clear out the crypts of accumulated debris may also help (the lower pressure tongue-cleaner attachment is recommended). A more drastic method, a tonsillectomy, is not usually indicated or recommended.
