Hi JTR,
I’m a naturally overweight guy myself. I was sort of in the same boat as you are, at my heaviest I weighed 220 at 5’10”. Not Jerry Springer fat, but fatter than I should have been. I tried a whole bunch of things when it came to exercise and nutrition, before I found what worked for me. Eventually I got down to a quite muscular 180, right now I’m a slightly fatter (and also more muscular) 193 (med school means it is hard to fit in time to workout and eat right). I’m going to get back to my ideal, but school obviously takes precedence.
I’d wholeheartedly suggest you check out “The Anabolic Diet” by Dr. Mauro Dipasquale. It is designed to naturally raise your testosterone and GH levels. From my personal experience and from the biochemistry I know, it definitely works. It’ll strip fat off you like nothing else I’ve ever seen, and add muscle as well.
For working out I’d suggest checking out the book “Starting Strength” by Mark Rippetoe. It is the best book I’ve ever seen about the subject of lifting weights. As a side note, I’d suggest achieving your fat loss by gaining muscle rather than trying to do cardio. Lifting weights has the added benefit of increasing testosterone levels, which can only help with PE.
You can get by just fine without Dr. Dispasquale’s book it doesn’t add too much to the information already on the web. I’d strongly suggest buying Rippetoe’s book or DVD. I’ve personally bought and given (had training partners borrow) 3 copies already.
Best of luck in your fat loss and PE.
