Heya Girthhopefull
Your quote “My question is: if you need help to quit, I.e. You are one of the unlucky people that cannot quit cold-turkey, and decide to use something like Chantix.” does more or less apply to my own situation.
I certainly will use a strong helping hand to quit for good.
But: I have just read the MD info about Varenicline (I.e. Champix) and in my humble opinion the undesired side-effects are quite heavy (citation from Swiss MD pharma database: 12.4% abnormal dreams, 13.8% insomnia, 10.1% headaches, 28.6% nausea, 1-10% feeling sleepy just to quote the worst side-effects).
About Champix and libido: yes, it may reduce your libido in a 1% to 1 o/oo probability. But in the same probability, it may rise your libido according to the Swiss MD pharma database. So the side-effect can go in both directions. And yes, it is true that the probability of having erection problems from smoking is ways bigger.
I think there must be other ways before using such a chemical mace. A friend of mine is a hypnosis therapist ad she says it is a possible way. I did not try it, but I rather will try hypnosis before adding chemical substances to my body that may do (other) harm too. And besides: the more I am walking and hiking, the less I feel the need for a cigarette.
Maybe it is possible to just “walk it off”. I’m trying that way for sure!
Oh yeah, I have to say that I am neither an MD nor a pharmacist, it’s only my IT background so I just know how to find the information (and interpret it a little bit because I once worked for the company that published this kind of information).
Wishing you good gains and great EQ
