No definite answer to that question. I see a parallel to working out any other part of your body.

Are you sore after workout? You should be, that actually proves that your workout was effective.
Is soreness stronger until you get used to exercise? Yes.
Is soreness less or almost lost after you get used to it? Yes.
Does the degree of sorenes depend on other factors, such as mood, sufficient rest, overall fitness and health? Again yes.
Is it recommendable after a longer period of regular workout to have a longer break? Yes.

As you see it is the same as working out other parts of your body. But we are all different and that’s why it is so important to listen to YOUR body.
