A $.02 Ball Zinger

What do you think is a fair minimum time to try a zinger before deciding it doesn’t do anything? 2 weeks, a couple months, or ?

Hobby you have given new meaning to the phrase “my 2 cents” ;)

-Still bitter the y2k bug was a dud.

-My dear boy, do you ask a fish how it swims? (No.) Or a bird how it flies? (No.) Of course not. They do it because they were born to do it...

Tip for cleaning the brown oxidation from the old copper penny:

Put an ounce of vinegar in a shot glass (any old vinegar)

Add a teaspoon of table salt to the vinegar

Drop in the pennies for a minute or two.

Rinse in water.

…if you want to go further and get the pennies to shine. When they are wet from the rinsing sprinkle on some baking soda from the back of the fridge and rub with a paper towel.

The above creates a mild HCL (hydrochloric acid) solution. After using your zinger you could just re-dip both pennies to remove the new oxidation your skin oils will create

Oops missed Capn’s post above. Cap: I used to do this when I collected pennies as a kid. The salt/vinegar works and the baking soda is a polisher. If you put the baking soda in the vinegar all you get is foam. (acid/base cancelling—generates CO2)

I know that you will feel the most obvious results within days of wearing it. However, I have noticed that after three weeks or more of continuous use (on and off basis), the effects are not as noticeable or strong. This is the reason why I have tried different routines to figure out the optimum way to wear it to achieve a more consistent effect.

The reason I have not been wearing it on a continuous basis is because I have gone through allergic reactions from trying different materials to improve the degradation of the rubber latex tubing. I tried Velcro, but after a while it gets uncomfortable, and sometimes even get a rash, etc, etc, etc. As you can see, I must depend on the experiences of other members to come to a more consistent result.

I have a theory why after long term continuous wearing of the zinger causes lost of effectiveness, but that is a topic of discussion for when I can accumulate more long term evidence.
So, how many members can I gather on my research team?

Rakis, that is a good suggestion on how to clean the metal contacts naturally, without using any strong or toxic chemicals.

The next zinger that is built must take this into consideration, since cleaning of the surfaces is a pain in the ass, whether you are using a brillo pad or a sandpaper. It must be a simpler way to clean without the effort. The salt/vinegar solution is a good idea. Now the next step is to find out if the Velcro, the glue, or the rubber latex tube will stand repeated immersions in this cleaning solution, or should we try other materials that will not be degraded with time?.
Can you see now why I quest for the perfect zinger?

Just dab a big drop on the penny with a Q tip. You don’t have to immerse the mountings.

>>>>>I think the electic circuit is supposed to be completed by your skin, not through direct contact with the other metal.

That’s right. The sweat etc on your skin acts as an electrolyte in this simple battery cell configuration. (A ball zinger is in effect a battery that applies a current through your skin) You use two different metals like copper and zinc because of their oxidation reaction levels to generate a voltage.

lonelybb is right - twat good thinking. I’ve done this before. Coke etc when transported has to have “dangerous chemical” signs on it because if there is a spill, the concentrated syrup is HIGHLY acidic, I’m talking like it will burn your skin off. I’ve used fizzy drink to clean my coin collection -works quite well but just dont use it on that 1850’s farthing or you won’t have a 1850’s farthing by morning….

I believe I already suggested the coke idea in a seperate thread. No wait, it was a seperate board :D

The coke thing is a myth, but just an exagerrated myth. If you leave the copper pennies in overnight it will clean them. So will vinegar. No need for baking soda which will neutralise as mentioned. Salt is only for more gritty cleaning power but the vinegar alone should do the trick. To strip the copper down to the zinc you could place it on a metal file and push it down and along with a wooden rod. This way it is less fiddley than handling a penny and sandpaper. Or glue or clamp the penny down and then sand it.

How far should the pennies be apart?

The "average size" is usually over-estimated. Small guys don't take part in surveys and big guys jump at the chance.

Girl claims she had a huge ex? Stick a spider in the bathroom or a mouse in the kitchen and when she comes out screaming ask her how big the spider/mouse was...

Who is paying $65 for something which the materials it is made from are worth literally less than a few cents?

ROFL! What a fool! Give him my number so I can sell him many priceless artifacts and become rich off other’s gullibility/sheep mentality now!

I will sell him my old pair of plastic no name shoes with a badly drawn on “ADIDAS” tick for like $200 - barely used! The smell? Oh it is just a new chemical that this cool company got from some nerds to make you run faster and shoot more hoops, and get chicks easily!

Not true about the salt, it dissolves in the vinegar, no scrubbing required. With the salt a penny’s oxidation will dissolve in less than 10 seconds. Like magic. It might happen overnight with just plain vinegar. Try it, both ways. It’s pretty amazing.

Hey, once we all have settled on a formulation to clean the copper/zinc zinger, maybe we can repackage it under the name “magic zinger cleaner” and sell it for $19.95 to all those customers who have purchased the $65.00 Ring…. It will still be bargain at under $100 !!

LMAO. Ring of Power cleaner,he will have to keep it similar. Don’t forget, we will want to post 100 threads in 10 minutes on how the cleaner is helping so much, and how long the penis is getting just from the addition of the cleaning compound.

Alice

Well, I put together one of these “2 cent” ball zingers and then measured the voltage while on. I got less than .5 volts. That just sucks. My ball zinger that supra sent me produces almost a full volt. It only makes sense though because the rods on the Supra version …….or tom hubbard version…you can make your own too…..I’m just lazy and would rather someone else do the construction and footwork for me…… are 2” long. The pennies are what…a little over 1/2” long?

Dogma, the voltage varies on mine. Sometimes it’s down to the low .5’s and others a little over .8. Low to mid .7’s seems most typical so far. Be sure you have enough zinc exposed and the copper coin is clean. Expect the voltage to wander as skin moisture fluctuates.

The amount of area exposed didn’t affect the voltage when I tested. I filed enough plating away to expose zinc around the edges and most of Lincoln’s head. I checked the voltage on my leg with the coins about 2” apart. Then I sanded everything down to only a flat, smooth zinc surface. The voltage was within a few hundreths from before.

The contacts are pretty small on the retail Blakoe ring, much smaller than pennies.

A penny is .75” in diameter, or about .44 square inches.

If half the circumference of a 3/8” rod contacts the skin, multiply the exposed length in inches times .59 to calculate the surface area. 1” of exposed rod would contact .59 square inches of skin.

If only a third of the circumference is in contact, multiply length by .39.

I have the Blakoe Ring ….the one you order online and pay about DOUBLE what Supra charges to make one…..it does not work. They use two tiny plates of zinc and copper and they are together which cancels out the circuit, producing no volts. Also the ring does not stay on, and it is uncomfortable. I am kind of ashamed that Blakoe would do this, especially after paying so much for one any one with any knowledge of basic electronics and metals know that if you do that it will cancel the circuit. I just wish I’d known before I ordered it. As I cannot return it. The zinc and copper press on each side of the penis on the ROP and BZ, and have one rod of zinc and one rod of copper and they do not touch, they use the skin to complete the circuit.
